La Ermita de Santa Lucia

Calle del Espíritu Santo, Número 42, Antigua Guatemala - Map
My wife and I stayed her after seeing Lake Atitlan. We looked online for a good priced hotel and had no idea how lucky we got. We were happy that this was perfectly placed on the quite part of Antigua and we walked up and down all of the streets every morning and then back to our hotel. Every morning they made us breakfast, that was AMAZING, anytime we wanted and would let you eat in your room or on the beautiful little garden patio. It was so quite and peaceful. They also have a parking lot around the block that is SECURE and will let you take your car in and out all day and help you do so. They people who worked there spoke English and Spanish and really wanted to make sure you loved your stay. They offered to do anything to make sure of it. We saw a lot of other hotels right in the center of Antigua but just did not want to leave the perfect place we found. This was truly wonderful and they were so nice to us that we would go back anytime!! The parking lot is only $5 a day and everything else is included. They also give you bottled water whenever you want it and have really nice movies playing in the room when you get back at night and just want to relax for a little. We stayed in room 105 and it had a big bed and coxy feeling. They lock the place all day and you have to knock to be let in to keep the hotel even more secure. We stayed here on this trip and will stay here on ever trip to Antigua. The staff was flawless!

"Our Casa Ovalle Review"
My husband, our 17 month old son, and I stayed at Casa Ovalle for one week and we loved it. We had an absolutely wonderful experience. The facility was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing was that the room had a fan which was nice but contrary to what Expedia claimed concerning an air condition.

"Great little hotel!"
We stayed at Casa Encantada for 10 days. We loved how authentic the hotel was. If you want to feel like you're staying at a local, charming home this is a great choice. What we enjoyed: 1. Breakfasts in the terrace were delicious and complimentary. Our waitress was Maria Augustina, and she was so pleasant. There are about 6 main breakfast options but we would modify dishes and order extra items at no additional charge. 2. We ordered room service, which is brought from the main hotel around the corner and can be charged to your room. Delicious seafood. 3. The small hotel likely has 9 rooms from what I could tell, and every main area is kept very clean. I loved how tiny the place was. 4. The location is about 4 blocks from the main plaza so we walked everyday to everything. 5. The trip to Tikal that the hotel organized for us was great! Early AM pickup with a driver, flight to Flores, tour guide, lunch, and drop off back at the hotel was all included in the packet. It was great! 6. The entire staff is so accommodating. You can tell even the driver is hoping you will come back. What a great place to stay! I'm planning to come back next year for Christmas! It's gorgeous there.

"Lovely retreat after Semana Santa"
Our first three nights in Antigua for Semana Santa were a bit hectic, but glorious. So when we returned the following week, we stayed at la Cathedral and LOVED it. What a lovely place, from the moment we walked into the garden area and then opened the door to our lovely room--bed made up beautifully, wood floor, very nice bathroom. Marco at the front desk remembered our son who had stayed there two years ago. Marco also helped us find a shop (foundry) that could make an iron wall piece that we had admired elsewhere and couldn't find in a regular shop. Will definitely stay here again. Also, great location-just one block from the central park.

"Boutique hotel with historic touch"
Lovely hotel within walking distance to Parque central. Awesome comfortable mattresses, well ventilated rooms, nice terrace and a couple of private courtyards. The place was probably a home in the past now converted to a hotel. Their breakfast was tasty. The People at front desk were friendly and helped us organize our trip to lake Atitlan and return to the airport. You could get a cheaper price if you went to the Collectivo stand but the price of the transport arranged by the Hotel was reasonably priced. The Hotel is not really close to Parque central but not very far either. i would say a 10 minute walk at the most or even lesser. Highly recommend the hotel for a Unique experience.

"Amazing experience"
Our stay at Casa Madeleine was a wonderful experience. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are cozy and well kept, and the staff was very helpful and welcoming. We stayed for several days and had a great time. The view from outside the room was stunning. The ladies at the front desk always had a smile and helped out with anything we needed. I would definitely stay here again!

"Best Secret in Antigua!"
Wonderful time here. Private parking, security 24/7. Don't have to pay parking on the street. It was a little hard to find because its at the end of the town but its actually a great location and you can still walk to everything. The room was beautiful and clean, quiet and safe, two floors, hot shower, kitchen and we paid for breakfast. Fabulous woman cooks for you and brings it to you daily if that's what you paid for. Traditional style and coffee. Just be sure you bring printed internet receipts because the only negative thing was they tried to say it was not prepaid and included but I was prepared with my proof as someone else suggested about Guatemala in general. I will come back to El Marques and recommend it to everyone. It is a jewel.

Las Iglesias Hotel - Antigua Guatemala Hotels

Las Iglesias Hotel

2da Avenida Sur No. 44B, Antigua Guatemala - Map
"Perfect mid-price hotel."
Las Iglesias Hotel is just about perfect as a mid-price hotel in Antigua. It's tastefully decorated and so new that most taxi and shuttle drivers haven't yet heard of it. I like that it's a little outside of the touristy center of Antigua (very quiet) but only 7 minutes from the Parque Central on foot and 10 minutes from La Merced Church. The web site indicated that a continental breakfast is included with the room rate, but it's actually a full breakfast--either pancakes and fruit or desayuno tipico (a "typical" Guatemalan breakfast of eggs, refried black beans, and fried plantains). Both options include orange juice and either coffee or tea. The staff is very friendly and took great care of us during our stay. The weekday manager speaks very good English if your Spanish is limited. Room #1 is the biggest and nicest of the rooms with a single queen-size bed, but I liked the relative privacy of room #6 on the second floor since I wasn't sharing the room with anyone. Rooms #4 and 5 are the best rooms for guests needing more than one bed as they are more private than rooms #2 and 3. If I ever go back to Antigua, I will definitely stay at Las Iglesias.

Pocket Guide: Guatemala City Antigua Guatemala 3 stars Green/Sustainable Hotels

Serenity and Colonial charm lure many to Antigua. Its Baroque-style Catedral features 17th century ruins, and La Merced--with its wedding cake façade--has a fountain said to be the largest in Central America. Shop the Mercado for local crafts or hike a volcano for spectacular views. During Holy Week (Semana Santa) see processions over elaborate carpets of dyed sawdust and fresh flowers.
