Could not sleep

It’s a nice convenient hotel with friendly staff, but we could not sleep. We had the A/C on high each and every night but the room was still unbearably hot.

Good option, but check out others, too

I stayed at Triton’s Zen Den during a promotion discount period, so it cost me only $90 a day. At that price I was happy with the hotel. But at a higher price I would think again before going to the hotel. The Zen Den was a really tiny room. Everything you need was there and all, but still. What really disappointed me was the absence of a coffee machine. Most other hotels have it, so I am used it to it now. All Triton offered was a $6 water bottle or stuff from the mini-bar. The hotel offers complementary coffee and tea downstairs in the lobby but only in the mornings. The wine tasting in the evening was nice (I am not sure if they do it all the time or whether it was seasonal). Easy check-in/check-out. I arrived in the middle of the night and there was no problem or delay in checking me in. The hotel is located right next to the Chinatown gate.

Be sure to rent a bike and ride around (there are several routes, including over the Golden Gate Bridge). Its loads of fun and a good way to see a lot in a short amount of time.

Can’t wait to go back to SF and stay at The Triton!

Can’t wait to go back! The Triton was a perfect location for us. Loved it’s small size and ease of getting places from this location!

Pet friendly at good price!

I found Hotel Triton at the last minute becuase I needed a hotel that was pet friendly. I was very impressed with the hotel. I didn’t know what to expect, but found it to be just what I needed at a reasonable price.

A truly unique experience

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Triton on a recent weekend getaway to San Francisco, and we were delighted with almost every aspect of our stay. The hotel has a funky, whimsical theme; the service was exemplary; the amenities--particularly the daily wine happy hour--made for a very comfortable, relaxing stay; the location is convenient to most of the downtown area. We loved it and will stay there again. The room itself was a bit small, but that’s to be expected in an older hotel. Truly a gem in downtown SF!

Traveler's tip

Request a room on an upper floor; we stayed on the second floor and the street noise was distracting at times.

Cant wait to go back

It was central to anywhere I wanted to go, close to the Wharf and downtown. The service was great with afternoon cookies and evening wine. I’d recommend this to anyone

Minimalist

Tiny, tiny rooms...NOISY A/C...bad ventilation overall. Nice staff, though some seemed preoccupied when approached for service. Great location.

Not impressed with late night barking dog on my Pet free floor

The hotel was clean and bed was comfortable. I received my requested room on the pet free 7th floor. I was dismayed when I returned to my room one night and heard a dog barking all the way from the elevator to my room. The dog was across the hall from my room and barked constantly over 3 hours until the owners returned after midnight. My 1/2 hourly complaints to the front desk fell on deaf ears, as first they said they’d call the room, then they said they’d send security up (but never did.) Finally they said that they couldn’t do anything because it wasn’t their dog. They offered to move me, but why couldn’t they have moved them as there shouldn’t be a dog on a pet free floor to start with. I will not stay again at a hotel where I am kept awake by a barking dog and have to deal with staff who could care less if this occurred on a pet free floor.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Stay here only if you are willing to listen to other people’s dogs bark at night.

Wonderful Hotel

The Hotel Triton was everything promised and then some. We were treated so great and had a wonderful time. Great people, great location and a fun place to come back to after seeing San Francisco. Highly recommended.

Loved the rubber duckies in the street side fountain :

The wine reception at 5:00 is fantastic! Outstanding hotel staff. Being able to hear the squeaky bed from the floor above at 3:00 a.m. was a bit bothersome, but that was the only noise otherwise.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out Sam Wo’s within walking distance - cheap eats, over 100 year old Chinese restaurant with lots of authentic character!

Hotel Kimpton is where I’ll stay in SanFran until I die.

This hotel freaking ROCKED. The staff was cool, the room designs were exciting, the music was excellent, and the price was right. Plus, there’s an iPod dock in my room. AWESOME. MJ died while I was there, and the staff played his videos in memoriam for the next 24 hours. Kind of lame if you’re a person, but cool if you’re a hotel! Seriously, the location was amazing. I will stay here every time I return to San Fran. No contest, I don’t even want to try another hotel now.

Just what we hoped it would be

After visiting San Francisco many times, and falling in love with Cafe de la Presse, we decided to book at the adjoining hotel. Hotel Triton did not disappoint. Friendly, helpful staff, comfy room, and GREAT location. Right across from Chinatown Gate, and just blocks away from so many attractions. Thanks to Expedias’ great rate we could well afford it. We will go back.

quirky and fun

i have stayed in several hotels within 1-2 blocks of union square and really recommend the triton. as with many kimpton hotels, it’s hip and quirky with cute room decor. everyone was helpful and friendly. there’s a nice wine hour in the evening complete with a tarot card reader.

Can’t wait to return

We had the most pleasant stay. We usually stay in the Union District but usually off Powell. We found this hotel to be wonderful!! Bed was comfy, clean and loved the wine in the afternoon. A nice touch. Definitely would stay here again.

Great value - would stay there again

The room was comfortable and stylish. I liked the artistic design details in the room - Kimpton’s signature animal print theme, for example, which showed up in the zebra-print headboard and the pattern for the bathrobe. I had to request a bathroom with a bathtub, but once we resolved that minor hiccup, I enjoyed my stay there. The location is excellent - close but not too close to Union Square, just across from Chinatown Gate, and within walking distance or a short cab ride to North Beach. I would definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip on dining

Cafe de la Presse next door to the hotel is a great place for brunch and snacks. It’s not cheap, but the quality of the food and the service are both good. The cafe reminded me of places I would frequent in Paris, which was an added plus.

Another great stay at Hotel Triton...

I’ve stayed at Hotel Triton 5-6 times over the last several years, and will continue to return. Triton is a great boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco. It’s cute and chic, comfortable, right in the middle of the action (next to the gates of Chinatown and a block from Union Square). The customer service here is great. They think of the little extras ... complimentary homemade cookies in the afternoons (yum)... the complimentary loaner umbrella was a lifesaver! The rooms are small but that’s okay by me. Beds and pillows are comfy!!! Looking forward to my next trip back already. Thanks, Triton!

One thing missing

A pleasant stay - my sole wish/recommendation would be a coffee maker in the room. I know you have a very fine coffee service in the lobby - but, as a single/sole occupant of the room, it would have been nice to make my own first thing in the morning.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Take BART from the airport - easy ride, not too long a walk to the hotel - taxis in San Francisco are outrageous - learn to navigate on public transportation.

Fun and well-run in a great location

What a great place to stay! The only thing to note is that my room (322) was tiny and had a view of a wall. Obviously other rooms don’t have that problem. But it was well-appointed, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel’s style is a great mix of wacky and charming -- kind of a party atmosphere, but only if you want it. Warm chocolate chip cookies on the counter when I checked in. A glass of wine in the early evening in the lobby. And, oh yeah, a fantastic breakfast place - Cafe de la Presse - is right next door. Do NOT miss those croissants!

Nice for the Price

Went here to suprise my Hubby for his 30th Birthday. This place is great because it is pretty centrally located, right at the gates of Chinatown and a 15 minute walk to North Beach. We had a wonderful stay.

Great location

Hotel Triton has super friendly staff and it’s a great location. Our room was very small and a little dark but I guess they’re fixing that since there were a lot of constuction going on while we were there. Our ceiling fan in the bathroom didn’t work so that was a yuck! But I’d stay there again for the super low price we got thru expedia. Thanks Expedia!

Traveler's tip on dining

The room service Hotel Triton offers is thru the french restaurant next door. DON’T DO IT! We ordered room service twice during our stay, once for lunch and once for breakfast. It just wasn’t worth the price we paid and how in the world do you mess up on eggs?!?! OMG there was an 18% gratuity plus the tax plus a city tax! Outrageous!

Off the charts...Excellent!

The hotel is beautiful and perfectly located in the heart of the city. The staff was AMAZING. They went well above and beyond to ensure that each guest was treated better than family. They couldn’t have been more accomodating and helpful! I couldn’t help but notice every little extra touch. I love Kimpton hotels and their staff, but this San Francisco experience was exceptional! Thank you

Well worth the hike

It’s a bit of a hike up from Market St, though well worth the schlep. And the complimentary wine bar every evening. And the pet bed & bowls for a labrador retriever, & I have a 7-lb yorkie. I did hear garbage trucks one morning, but that’s what’cha get in a major city.

Perfect little getaway

loved the convenience of the location, the quirky qualities of the hotel, the supercomfy beds, and the value!! got a great deal on this hotel 3 hours before checkin. Walked all over town from the hotel...to North Beach, through downtown, up on the hills, to the waterfront. Loved it! small rooms, but very comfy beds, great sheets. When you’re in SF, there isn’t much reason to stay in a hotel room aside from sleeping anyway! glad to have found the Triton...will be back.
