Serrano Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

The hotel was awesome! It was my first time at a Kimpton and also a Boutique Hotel, and I will definetely go back.

Good location

Nice hotel convenient to Union Square, Chinatown and major bus line. Good restaurants in the area. Small inconvenience waiting for a clogged tub and toilet to be fixed. I was told someone would be right there and waited 45 minutes. I had to leave before someone arrived but problems were fixed when I got back later in the day. There’s a hotel on every corner in this area of the city. I would probably check out a few more before staying at the Serrano again.

GREAT STAFF, LOCATION BUT ROOMS ARE WORN

I have to say the staff is wonderful at the Hotel Serrano. THe location is superb. The hotel is a much older structure. Quaint lobby..again friendly staff. The rooms are a bit small but nicely appointed. My particular room had worn ripped wallpaper. Bathroom was tight. Could barely use the commode. Light fixture was rusty and surface mold around the tub. If the room were in better condition, I’d say it’s a perfect Gem.

Location is great, close to everything. Beautiful hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

Great location and clean, comfortable, but very small rooms. Hotel staff was 50/50. Some were exceptional, where other staff members were just OK.

Sorrano

Hotel was very clean, staff was wonderful. Me and my girlfriend visited San Francisco for her birthday and it was one of my best hotel experiences. There is a restaurant right next to the hotel where you can order roomservice from without the rediculous high prices. room was very clean. a bit small but very nice indeed. i would recommend to others.

This was a great stay, The staff upgraded my wife and I to a suite because it was our anniversary.

I would stay at this hotel if I went back to the city again. The bed was sooooo comfortable and the staff was very friendly. I could not have asked for a better stay.

Was awakened at 3am both nights by noise in the hotel. Someone seemed to be working in the room next to us. Heard the sound of machines and running water. Rooms next to the elevators are not recommended if a peaceful evening is sought

Good Location

It is within walking distance of all forms of shopping and transportation. Take the Bart from the airport and it’s only two or three blocks away. People at the hotel were friendly and very helpful. I will stay there again next time I’m in the city.

Staying at the Serrano again in 2 Months

Very nice, comfortable room. Quiet room which is rare in San Francisco. (No street noise) Great service from the staff. Beautiful room, bathroom facilities in excellent condition. Bed was great. Elevators are small but fast. Wine tasting in the evening for guests in the lobby.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Short walk to Union Square and Market St. Good restaurants are a couple of blocks up the hill. It is on the edge of the Tenderloin area with a lot of homeless. You can easily avoid this area by walking a block or two around it or just always go toward Union Square.

Recommended overall

The room wasn’t very big but it was clean and pleasantly appointed. The hotel is generally value-laden. Just one beef: I was happy to see two iMacs in the small business center as i hadn’t taken my laptop along with me. However, the charge to use one and go online was exploitive.

Very pleased with stay at Serrano. Comfort, clean and good service. Rooms were small but very comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Good walking location to many sites. Only one bad experience in that we asked concierge to make us a reservation on a Sunday night for dinner. we requested this on Thursday when we checked in and when i called to confirm the reservation, it had NOT been made. I suppose he forgot. most all other dinner reservations i made myself which was a good thing. My sons really enjoyed the fitness center as well.

Great stay, a perfect gateway to San Francisco

We were at the Serrano for three days to explore San Francisco and the hotel and its staff were perfectly situated and qualified to help us have a wonderful stay.

Decent boutique hotel

Few blocks from Union square.The hotel is old ,bathrooms are quite small but the service is very good and the free internet a plus(have to sign for the Kimpton in touch program to access free internet).Lot of places to eat around,complimentary tea/coffee available in the morning and daily wine reception.There are a number of other Kimpton hotels closeby and some of them looked better than Serrano`s.

After a string of less than satisfying hotel stays the Kimpton was a welcome delight. THe room itself was very comfortable and the staff in all instances were very helpful. One pleasant surprise was their wine festival each afternoon where free wine or sangria was served between 5 and 6 in the lobby. As the hotel doesn’t have a bar, this was a welcome way to relax at the end of the day without having to go out again.

Disappointed with Room Location & Windows

I was disappointed that our room was in a corner with a view to another building’s wall. We had an upgraded room and expected better. Also, the windows were sealed shut. It would have been so nice to open them up and get fresh air in the room. Finally, we were supposed to get free wifi but were never given the access codes to do so. I did like the hotel location and the rates were reasonable. The hotel parking was not. You can self-park in the garage right across the street for half the price. I would stay here again because the price is right, the location is excellent, and the room itself was very clean and nice.

Good Bargain in SF

Well-situated about 4 blocks from Union Square and accessible to BART/cable/bus lines. Complimentary happy hour every night. Staff is helpful to tourists.

If you are looking to save a little money and stay close to Union Square this hotel is perfect. If you get a room near the stairs it will be noisy, also the rooms are small, but the staff was really friendly.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The best part was the proximity to Union Square and the cable cars. If you want to save money get a Muni pass which will cover most transportation. You can walk to Market street and buy one. Also, when taking the cable cars note that you may have to walk a bit to get back on one that is not full if you get off near Chinatown. For a ride to the airport, you should use one of the complimentary taxi coupons from the hotel, but do not plan your taxi ride close to the last minute.

Serrano Rocks!

The Serrano is in a great location, has a great vibe, and offered a great price. What more can one ask for? Oh, yeah--it’s named after a delicious ham! (Well, maybe not, but I liked the idea of it!)
