A decent & clean hotel

A decent place to stay if you’re in town for just one night but I probably wouldn’t go back there for a two or three night stay. The room is relatively small and I wasn’t a big fan of the decor and furniture but that is just my personal taste so you might think differently about it. Everything was in good shape, clean and functioning at this hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Again: decent but, at least for me, not the type of place you enthusiastically recommend.

First Rate Hotel

The hotel gets high marks in all the important "satifaction" categories. The only thing that goes on the negative side of the ledger is that our room did not have a view. We would not hesitate to go back, but we would specifically ask for a room that would give us a view of the street.

Pretty hotel in a sketchy area

Love the servie and the room itself, but the area is a little sketchy. That said, it is a short walk to shopping, theatres, etc. and is very comfortable.

Made work travel easy

In my previous visits to San Francisco I have stayed in Union Square however in order to be close to the venue I looked for a hotel in closer proximity to the event I was attending. I have had great experiences with Hotel Monaco in other cities and it was a few blocks from where I need to be so thought I would give it a chance. The first thing that struck me was the service of the hotel staff. They were all very friendly, extremely accommodating and really went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I have to admit the room was a bit smaller than I expected but it served my needs so I wasn’t really bothered. There are potential charges for internet but if you join their loyalty program the internet is free. It was very reliable for my entire stay. The business center was great in that it had 4 computers and 2 printers. I was on limited time to eat and ordered room service and even though they had yet to move into their night menu they made an exception and were able to provide a quick meal to ensure I was ready for the evening. They also have morning coffee in the lobby and have a wine hour hosted by the staff every night. Just a few blocks away from Union Square there is a Walgreens across the street and a Starbucks one block away. We had to walk back to the hotel at 2:00 a.m. and the brightness of the area left me feeling safe throughout the 3 block walk back to the hotel. Overall, it was a great stay and I would definitely stay there again in the future.

San Francisco Gem

Booked the Hotel based only on the information from Expedia. The Hotel is located central to much of San Franciscos shopping and theater area. The Hotel offers valet parking for $49 a night, but there is a lot on Taylor for $28 200 feet away. The Hotel was excellent, the room was more than expected and the service was great. Be sure and dine at the Grand Cafe attached to the Hotel.

Elegant hotel

Hotel was elegant, staff was very friendly,very clean stylish rooms. 2 blocks from Union Square which was nice. Would stay there agin.

The place was amazing. Very nice staff and clean hotel. I love the free wine tasting from 5-6 pm everyday of the week!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

This hotel is great to stay at because there are at least 4 different bars on each side and shopping centers all around. Very nice! Plus most shopping stores and restuarant are walking distance.

Hotel fit our needs perfectly. Loved the size of our room and the bathroom was fabulous.

Treated like kings....

Love the free wine hour every day. The staff was soooo nice. Hotel restaurant was lovely (albeit pricey). GREAT location, too, right in the heart of the city. I would definitely stay there again!

Beautiful, friendly, spacious hotel in SF

I loved this place. The decor was charming, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was cheering. The bed was comfortable. For SF, the room was a good size. The in-room music (cd provided) was delightful. Our room the first night stank of cigarette smoke - hence the lower ratings for hotel maintenance - but they moved us out the next day and the rest of the stay was great. I also really liked the Grand Cafe. The physical space is amazing and the food is really good.

Felt like Home Away from Home

Location is great, bed was very comfy, I loved the fact that there is a wide window ledge to sit and relax to in the evenings. Great amenities like make up mirror and robes. It was great having a jet spa tub in the room. I enjoyed the wine reception and complementary massages in the evenings. I would stay here again!

there are rental car places around the corner for the hotel, but they are super busy so it is best if you reserve it beforehand and get to the place as early as possible to pick up your rental car or you will be standing around waiting in line for a long time even with a reservation

Fantastic Hotel!

We absolutely loved Hotel Monaco and will stay there on future trips. It is perfectly located and within walking distance to everything. The hotel is beautiful and the staff very accommodating. It is elegant but not "stuffy". The perfect balance between luxury and funky. Their restaurant and bar, The Grand Cafe, was great! We normally never eat in the hotel restaurant, but ate several times in the restaurant’s bar. A great, cozy atmosphere, laid back waiters and bartenders and wonderful food. Everything we had - from appetizers to drinks, to sandwiches - was fantastic! We got a great rate from Expedia and stayed in a standard queen room which was comfortable, beautiful, but a little small. We would probably upgrade next time to have a little more space. Couldn’t believe we got such a great boutique hotel for the price! Would definitely recommend it!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask for a room on the side of the hotel away from the loading dock and trash pick-up. Especially on recycle day. We were awakened rather early to loads of bottles clanking as trash was being picked up. This was the only downside and could be easliy remedied by requesting a room on the other side of the hotel.

A Great Place in San Francisco

I would highly recommend this hotel. It is a beautiful decorated boutique hotel. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The room is nicely decorated and the bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I’ve ever encountered. The room and the bathroom are kept very well and clean. Wine and cheese are offered every evening at 5:30. The hotel is conveniently located within reach of major shopping and China Town. I would most certainly retunr to the hotel when I am back in San Francisco.

Never again

I asked not to be put in an area of the hotel where there were not many people since I was traveling alone. I first was assigned a room that was at the end of the hall by the stairs - no one around. So, they changed the room after I complained --then bright lights came into my room at night and I had trouble sleeping. The hotel room was clean but I didn’t trust the maintenance people who followed me around all the time. Why??

Select the Westin St. Francis - they were very helpful - had a good breakfast - provided free newspapers at breakfast - booked my tour of Carmel - and let me print my boarding pass at their hotel.

Great place

Hotel Monaco was a great place to stay while in San Francisco. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful when suggesting places to dine. The hotel is very pretty and clean. The wine reception each evening was much appreciated after a long day touring the city. Highly recommend this hotel.

This is the Place - Perfect Location

We could not have picked a better hotel. Had actually gone into this blind, but knew that Kimpton Hotels take the extra step; we knew this was the one. Its location was ideal and the staff were just remarkable. Never once needed to try and figure it out on our on. The staff were more that willing to help out. Beautiful lobby and the rooms somewhat smaller than most people would be use to, the amenities were fabulous.

Breakfast at Lefty O’Doul’s was a treat and very quick to get you on your wauy during the day.

Wonderful customer service, lovely aesthetic

My husband and I were there for 6 days mixing business and pleasure. The staff was amazingly helpful and our room had a lovely interior design that made us feel like we weren’t at a cookie-cutter hotel. Highly recommend.

Kimpton Hotels will always be my first consideration

Located in the heart of San Francisco, Hotel Monaco offered me great flexibility in walking to the conference I was attending as Moscone Center, the theater, shopping, area parks, shopping and even a Wednesday farmer’s market. Public transportation was also easy to access. Additionally, I loved the smallish size of the hotel and the community spirit that was present given the friendly and helpful staff and the evening gatherings that are offered. I also loved the Bill Kimpton memorial that is present in the lobby. What an inspiring man and a leader in social entrepreneurship!

Best Experience

We had the best experience, not only did we get our room updated to the Suite but the staff was amazing and so welcoming. They had free happy hour which got all the guests together which was nice and when we would come in for a nap they had popsicles offered to us. They went out of their way to make our experience fun.

I absolutely loved this hotel, and whenever I get back to SFO will definitely stay here again. The staff could not have been nicer, more helpful, friendly and pleasant. Our room was cleaned beautifully, the beds and linens made you feel like you were sleeping on a cloud..everything shined in the bathroom! The complimentary chair massage and wine tasting in the lobby living room every afternoon was such a nice touch. I also loved the decor!! We stayed in a double deluxe room. The location was perfect. Look no further...this is the place!

When we checked in, it was a saturday, late afternoon. We were a little hungry, and needed something to tide us over until our dinner plans later. A lovely young lady at the front desk recommended a place called "Honey Honey" a block away. The best crepes I’ve ever had. (other things as well). Inexpensive, casual atmosphere, non-touristy. We wound up in there every day at some point.
