best location for shopping and a taste of city life

Wonderful hotel located in heart of San Francisco. Just steps from Union Square shopping. Perfect if you’re flying into the city and don’t have a car. Rooms are on the small side but beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. All the modern amenities. Staff are friendly and helpful. Feels like a four or five star hotel. Great location for theatre and night life. Lots of restaurants in the area that stay open late. Have stayed at this hotel three times and would not hesitate to go back. I can afford to stay in a more expensive hotel but always choose Kensington Park because of its great location, service and style. Great place for a girlfriend’s getaway.

Loved it!

Loved the hotel with historic lobby and elevator. Beds were great and decor was very nice. Small room but the attention to detail in the decor made up for it. Coffee in the morning and sherry in the afternoon was free. Great location - walking distance to all the shopping around Union Square and China Town. Hotel staff were helpful and very nice. Very close to cable car stop and double decker tour bus stop. Convenient, comfortable, and cozy luxury.

close to Union Square but no facilities at all, just a bedroom/bathroom

Good hotel if all you need is a bed and bathroom close to Union Square. Hotel has no atmosphere, no bar, restaurant at all, not even a minibar in the room and room are quite small and noisy. For the money, better to stay at Fisherman’s wharf.Parking fees are astronomical !

Traveler's tip on shopping

Right by macy’s and Union Square

Pleasant, but does this place actually have a manager?

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, and our room was comfortable and very nicely decorated. The location is great, half a block off Union Square. Unforatunately, when we showered on the firt morning, we realized that the tub drain was so slow that we were standing in six inches of water. Despite calling on a daily basis, the problem was never fixed. Additionally, we three times requested to speak with the hotel manager, and were told that he would call us back....and he never bothered. Quite a disappointment. Stay somewhere else, where they actually value your patronage enough to follow through with returning calls and ensuring that your room meets basic standards.

C lassy little hotel

My friend and I stayed at this hotel in mid September. We felt very safe and welcome at the Kensington Park. The staff was alert and ready to help with any questions. We certainly will go back to the Kensington next time.

Great location

I took my 17 year old son to SF for short vacation. The best part of Kensington Park is the location. It is very central. Union Sq and all the shopping is within a couple blocks. We walked to the Embarcadaro, Fishermans Wharf, Coit Tower, Lombard St, AT&T Park, Chinatown, Haight and Ashbury and Golden Gate Park. Not all in one day, but if you like to walk the location is perfect. You can also catch Bart,Trolley, city bus or a Street car without a problem. The noise of the hotel door closing is very annoying. Every time someone opens the door and it closes you can hear it. No good lighting in the bathrooms, but water pressure in shower is great. I liked that we could open our bedroom window for fresh air. And if you want to relax and watch TV in the evening you only have a few stations.

Charmed!

Im a boutique hotel fan and this hotel meets all my needs in this category.. From the elevators to the bathrooms, this small hotel is very very lovely...

Its easier to use the hotel valet parking, pay a little more and have unlimited in and out service than having he bother of parking down the street with no access to your car.

Great for the price

I stayed in the KP for 3 nights and was happy with the quality of the linens, the appointments in the room and the general decor. However, I had one of the worst room locations possible. My room looked out across a small alley into the window of the Elks lodge (which is also located, in part, in the hotel’s building). This meant I had to keep the curtains drawn pretty much all the time. Second, the room was located direct across the hall from the maids’ supply closet... which acts as a hub of conversation for the maid staff and thus creates noise at about 8am. Despite these downsides (which are fairly specific to my room) I liked the hotel and it was of a good quality and in a good location. Make sure to ask for a higher room to avoid staring into another window.

Not worth the price

No service, no minibar,no safe in the room,no friendly staff, no roomservice after 16 p.m, only a nice no english speaking bellboy. We went on the same trip we went to las vegas The Venetian and new York Carlton on Madison. We had a suite and a superbe room for the same price at the Kensington with excellent services.Very disappointed, we are very frequent travelers all over the world never made a commentary but this time we had to do it.

San Francisco, Excellent, Beautifull we did the road # 1 from L.A to San Francisco something you have to do in your life !!!!!

Good location

Our window was broken and we couldn’t shut it completly. Only one electric outlet worked near the bed so I was forced to chose between my CPAP machine and the light on the bedstand. Room otherwise was fine and quiet.

Great Value

Excellent hotel for the price. Located right next to Union Square. Parking a bit expensive at the hotel, but there is a self parking garage right around the corner. Clean rooms, helpful staff, and great location in SF.

Lovely Stay

Very nice hotel, very cute and comfortable. Only downside was the noise...could always hear doors slamming and noise from the street. A different room location could have solved the street noise problem, not sure about the doors. They don’t have the mechanism on them that slows them when shutting, so they really do slam. Otherwise, would definitely recommend. Great hotel for the price!

Would go back in a heartbeat!

Kensington Park Hotel has so much charm! The pictures were quite right when showing the place! The price is so affordable for the luxury you get! It was WELL worth the price! Front desk staff was always so very sweet and helpful. The rooms were quiet, charming, updated, stylish, with the most amazing bed that we have EVER slept in...(like every review has said! They were right!) We have no doubts about coming back to Kensington Park Hotel!

Great Customer Service

I was very impressed with this hotel. When we checked in the Front Desk staff was outstanding. They actually introduced themselves and said if there was anything we needed to ask for them. The hotel itself is older but well kept up and the location is excellent. Only a few steps from Union Square and the cable car stop. Will definetly stay here again!

Traveler's tip on dining

If you want a great seafood meal that’s a little pricey but so worth it, try Farallon which is next door. Just the decor of the restaurant is worth going in...

perfect location

Perfect location for leisure or business, right next to Union Square. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but clean. Coffee and tea available in the morning, sherry and tea in the afternoon. Valet service is expensive, but worthwhile.

Friendly, Attentive Hotel Staff, Great Hotel Location

This was the first trip to San Francisco for myself and my husband, so we were not sure if our choice of hotel would be a good one. We were pleasantly surprised with the courteous, attentive staff you could find at all hours of the day or night. Our room was very clean, nicely decorated and the king size bed was very comfortable. The hotel is situated in Union Square, which is a great central location. No car is needed. You can easily take the BART from the airport and walk a short 6 blocks from the train station, to the hotel. You can hop on a Trolly car, cable car, or bus all within a block or two distance from the hotel. Any one of these modes of transportation can get you to the various attractions, including Fisherman’s Wharf. We look forward to another visit to this hotel in the near future.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you plan on using one of the various modes of transportation available, be sure to check into the daily, or multiple day passes that allow you to ride either a bus, trolly car, or cable car as many times as you want, instead of purchasing single ride tickets. There is a ticket booth and ticket master booth right in Union Square, or look for other ticket booths at the beginning and end trolly stops.

Great location, if a bit noisy street side

The best thing about this hotel is its great location--close to everything in Union Square and the cable car lines. It’s a bit noisy if you have a room along either Powell or Post street (which would be true of any hotel in the Square); but we requested a switch after our first night, and they were more than happy to move us to an interior room.

Would have liked to have stayed longer

We do a shopping/show trip in the City a couple times a year and like to stay at boutique hotels that still leave money left to shop with! The Kensington fit the bill perfectly. The staff was wonderful, the location is perfect and the beds are AMAZING! We look forward to returning!

Great room

The room was just rignt, not too large or too small. One of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on. The location was perfect, within walking distance from Union Square (across from Saks Fifth Avenue!). I’ll definitely return.
