Great visit to San Francisco
The hotel was older and it must have been how traveling was years ago. But thats fine with me because Im an old fashioned kind of guy. The entire stay was great including the breakfast that I ate on my last day. I accidently submitted that I wanted the internet connection, which would have been fine except for the fee. The fee was promptly taken off when I explained that I didnt want it.

Great Convenience - OK Neighborhood
Close to all public transportation. Great for shopping. Comfortabale accomodations. Helpful concierge/tour desk. The only thing I didnt like were the panhandlers on the streets. Other than that, great experience, would go back.
Definitely make your way down to Dolores Park in the Mission and get yourself some homemade organic ice cream at Bi-Rite Creamery. There may be a line around the corner but its worth the wait!

SF visit
This a nice hotel, close to everything. location is great. Free internet. The only draw back is you have to park out side the building in a commercial building with a pass. But, it is a small inconvenience to a great location.

Comfortable, stylish and convenient
This is our 3rd trip to San Francisco and each time weve stayed at the Chancellor. The hotel is in a convenient, centralized location right off the Powell St cable car line. Amenities are more than satisfactory and the staff is courteous and helpful. The only drawback is the unavailability of king-sized beds (queen and twin beds only) but the rooms are still quite comfortable. Just a lovely place to stay!

Pleasant hotel
Excellent hotel on a prime location, service was good, friendly people, the only thing I missed there was not a boiler for making tea or coffee in the room plus no fridge either. But in the lobby was 24/7 coffee or tea available for free.
Buy a cable car day card for $ 11 per person instead $5 per ride so you can travel whole day from hotel to fishermans wharf/pier 39. Buy a city sightseeing tour for all loops(hop on Hop off),so you see the most of the city in 3 days without killing yourself by walking these steep hills.

This was a great place to say
We really liked this hotel; it was clean, well-maintained and had European charm. We didnt try the restaurant, but it looked nice. There was a small bar in the lobby where coffee, fruit and cookies were always available. Coupons were provided for a nearby department story, 2 for 1 at the hotel bar, discounts at the restaurant. The location was great, right in the heart of Union Square. The staff was really friendly, too. The rooms are a bit small, but we spent most of our time in San Francisco out and about the city, so it didnt matter much. The beds were comfy and bath salts were provided (along with a nice big tub!)which came in handy after all the walking we did! I would definitely recommend staying at the Chancellor.
Buy a Muni pass - you pay one flat fee which entitles you to ride the buses and cable cars all day. Wear really comfy shoes, because youll do a lot of walking. Be prepared for any kind of weather, my recommendation is short sleeves with sweatshirts or sweaters and a light jacket for an extra layer. Bring a lightweat umbrella, a backpack instead of a purse for free hands. Rent a car and drive up US 1 to wine country (takes longer but so worth the spectacular view). When you visit wineries, share the tastings; youll save money and stay sober.

Great place to stay and see San Francisco
This hotel has been here a long time, but it has been substantially updated. The location cant be beat, the parking option was great. While the room was small, it was very nice. My one complaint was I couldnt figure out how to adjust the temperature, and it was very warm and stuffy. Kept the fan on all night. They also offerred a few nice perks.

Just what I expected
I spent a few days at this hotel in October with my niece. The location was great; just close enough to Union Square to be convenient but not so close as to be constantly mobbed. The room was appropriately sized for a big city & decorated great. The closet was huge & allowed us to get all our luggage opened in it so we werent stepping/tripping over things on the floor. We had a great stay & would definitely return.

A little Tired but Location is Great
Hotel looks a little tired but they have done a lot with the room. Great location near Union Square and right on the Powell-Hyde Cable Car line. There is a Borders next store and a Walgreens right up the block. Cookies were an added bonus and the food at the hotel restaurant is not great but adequate. Service was excellent and room was clean. They offer a valet service as well if you have a car.

Wowed by the locale convenience, friendliness of staff and comfort
The staff was extremely courteous, and although the room was not what you would call luxurious, it was cozy, comfortable and clean. The location was very convenient. I would definitely recommend it.
Traveler's tip
Bring comfortable walking shoes. It is a beautiful city with LOTS of hills -- best experienced on foot.

The staff was awesome and helped us get to where we wanted to go. Rooms were clean Location was awesome. would stay there again. We loved everything about the chancellor
Traveler's tip on local attractions
be sure and take the ferry to sausalito for great views of the bridge and alcatraz for only 8 dollars. sausalito is a great little place to roam around and the ferry ride is beautiful. lefty Odouls bar (two blocks or the right then half a block to right) has a great breakfast cheaper and no waiting than Sears next door. Sears next store is best at dinner. Food is good. Walgreens is close by and open late for snacks.

Love the Chancellor!
What a great hotel in a perfect location! When we booked our room I had mentioned that it was our anniversary, they took it upon themselves to put us on the 14th floor with a view of Union Square! In addition to that, they had a bottle of champagne waiting for us with two souvenir champagne classes and a frame to take home with us. We LOVED that! We had gone out to eat one of the evenings that we were there and brought back left overs, although we didnt expect that they would have one, we called and asked if they had a fridge downstairs we could put our food in, instead they brought a mini fridge to our room for free! Anything we asked for (including a pair of scissors) was ours within minutes! The room was clean, flat screen TV, good size bed, pretty good sized bathroom for SF, and cute green accents throughout the room. For the price, the hotel well exceeded our expectations, we will be staying here again!

Excellent value. Convenient location.
I found the Chancellor to be good, basic accommodations at a reasonable price in a perfect location. There was nothing fancy about it, but it was clean, comfortable and was missing none of the essentials.

Great Hotel
This hotel is walking distance to China Town. The trolley stops right outside, and the hotel is only a few blocks up from the turn table. The staff were very friendly and allowed us to register early so that we could get the best room available. My only complaint was that it was too hot in the room, but I suppose thats expected when it was 90 degrees outside and the room didnt have no a/c. The rooms are on the small size, but furnished nicely. Overall, I would recommend this to some one that wants to be central to most tourist-y activities in San Fransisco.

Excellent location
Though old, the Chancellor Hotel is an excellent choice - the location is fantastic, the price is reasonable in the extreme, and the dinning room, serving breakfast and lunch at reasonable prices is perfect - the Chancellor is an old fashoned hotel - nice rooms, very pleasant staff and not expensive, a perfect place to stay while exploring a city.

Solid Classic Hotel with Great Location
Chancellor is an older hotel and locally owned, so not a major chain style. That said it was nice, clean and the location is superb for Union Square. The staff was very nice, and the restaurant was an excellent choice for breakfast. Food was good, staff was very polite and the price was much lower than typical hotel menus. The rooms are nice, although not overly large. Amenities are typical and Id happily use them again for any trip.
Traveler's tip on dining
A couple blocks away is Santorini Mediterranean restaurant - excellent and very good Greek style food. Definitely a good place for dinner.

Good & Basic Hotel
The hotel is in a great location. By all the great stores and transportation. Walking distance to Chinatown as well. It is a very basic hotel. You get what you pay for. I was not disappointed w/ the quality of the rooms nor service.

Fantastic Hotel, Great Price
I traveled here with my partner and both of us were very happy with the service. Each employee was very helpful and everyone took the time to help us navigate through the city. The restaurant is also very reasonably priced and serves delicious food. Its a bummer they dont have a continental breakfast, but there is free coffee, tea and cookies all day. I would definitely recommend this hotel in the future...

Perfect Spot
The Chancellor is the perfect spot for people that enjoy shopping. It is in the middle of Union Square and just a few minutes from everything. Staff was very helpful especially the informational/tourist booth downstairs. Great deals on city tours and very accommodating to your needs. I would definitely stay there again.
Traveler's tip on shopping
If you like high end department stores i.e. Saks, Tiffanys, Nordstrom, etc. This is a place to stay because you will have everything just a step away. Further down (2-3 blocks) is another shopping area where you will find H&M, Forever21, DSW, Gap, Old Navy, and cute little vendors on the side.
