Epic Fail

This hotel is a complete and utter epic failure on service. They messed up our reservations, staff was rude. The only exception was the concierge who provided excellent service.

Doesn’t live up to advertising.

The Nikko puts itself out as a high class establishment, luxury hotel. Although the building is beautiful and the lobby and Anzu are nice looking, the hotel staff is not apparently up to the rep. Basically, the valet couldn’t be bothered to open the car door for my wife once in the ten or so times we went in and out. The maid turned on the stereo in our room when she went in to turn the bed down and forgot to turn it off twice (if that was intentional they could have at least turned it to a station that comes in well in the room). By the way parking FOR HOTEL GUESTS is $45 a day and is not included in the Expedia price. My wife got a massage in their "spa" and was given a less than thorough shiatsu massage and was not even asked what type of massage she wanted or anything, but she did get to pay $125 for it!! She was not remotely happy but didn’t have time to stay because we had to get to dinner. The bathroom was the nicest part of the room. The shower was okay and the in-mirror t.v. thing was a cool gimmick but it didn’t make up for the rest of the hotel. We picked a hotel at random for less than $100 for the night near the airport in Minneapolis before we left and were happier in that room. Overall we were disappointed with the Nikko and will not return.

nice hotel

our stay in the imperial room was great. The view of the city and bay made this trip amazing, along with biking the golden gate. The hotel service was great. The staff was friendly. The food was good..The only thing was that everything was pricey especially parking..over all the stay was great.

The hotel was wonderful. Stayed on the top floor. There was a television in our mirror!! Couldn’t have asked for a cleaner and more hospitable hotel!!

Smaller rooms than I expected, even for San Francisco standards

the hotel is in a very good location just a few blocks from the major shopping and street car lines. however, the rooms were FAR smaller than i expected. also, the front desk was not very friendly at all. they were cordial but not welcoming in any sense. I have stayed in several hotels while on vacation downtown san francisco, and this was by far the smallest yet. the hotel looks nice and lobby is open from the outside but the rooms were cramped. when we first arrived, our non-smoking room also smelled like smoke. the front desk said they were completely booked for the night so we had to just make do. we expected that they would at least upgrade us to a different room if rooms in our level were booked by they only brought in an air purifier. another piece to clutter our already tiny hotel room. the bathrooms were nice and the housekeeping staff cleaned nicely but i would not recommend this hotel to friends. i would go back to the hotels i stayed at perviously before choosing hotel nikko again.

Very conveniently located

this is our second stay at the Nikko and we enjoy the location as well as the hotel. We tried the imperial level room, that include access to the fitness center and swimming pool which was nice for the boys (11 and 14) after a day of walking in the streets. This also included a lounge service for drinks before dinner and continental breakfast. We never went for the breakfast as we enjoy some of the japanese choices of the hotel but the service was very minimal for the drinks and appetizers. We have stayed at hotel that offer the same kind of service with more and better options. Pretty much if you arrived at 6:30 pm after a large group everything was gone and no one came to clean the place or refill. Overall we really enjoy the hotel and its location.

Great Hotel, good location

We love this hotel. It’s just down the street from Union Square. We went up to see Wicked, the musical, which was less than a mile from the hotel. I also love the gym here. It’s big, indoor pool, and all the equipment was in great shape.

Great hotel experience

The Nikko had excellent service, a very nice gym/pool and was in the perfect location. It was quiet, with well appointed rooms. I’d definitely go back. The special Expedia rate made it a really good deal, too.

Great location but not a great hotel

I was in town for the big MFA auditions they hold each Feb. For this purpose the location of the hotel was fantastic. It was very close to the cable cars, The metro, ACT, and plenty restaurants and shopping. What I did not like was the 100.00/night incendental fee they charge each night of your stay. They also charge 10.00 to use their gym and a bunch of fees if you want to use their business center. There is a fee for printing, using the internet, faxing and copying. They also charge if you want to use their pool (which we didnt.. but wow !) The room was small and there were a lot of black marks all over the walls. The had no fridge and no mini bar but a bottle of water you could drink for nine dollars. The staff was nice though but I will not be retuning there are plenty of other hotels in the area that dont tack on a lot of fee’s. If you have a lot of money to waste than this place is for you. I will not be returning.

Nice hotel, good location

Hotel Nikko turned out to be a comfortable hotel, with nice (smallish) rooms. My only criticism is aimed at the health club on the 5th floor. Firstly there is a charge to use the facility, and secondly there was not enough ventilation in the cardio area, making it uncomfortably warm to do any kind of serious workout. Other than that, had a great stay.

Nikko with some reservations

loced the hotel and the price, didn’t love the ridiculously high deposit they put on your credit card on check in-it left us a bit cash poor for our stay in SF. Otherwise, the hotel is excellent, the gym facility is worth the extra $10 charge, and it was lovely relaxing in the hot tub after long days working.

Will definitely go back

The hotel is in the best possible location. 2 blocks for Union Square with lots of fine restaurants and shops. Macys and Saks Fifth Ave are within easy walking distance. I booked a junior suite and was upgraded to a beautiful and hugh corner suite on the 16th floor. Everything is first rate. Service is great. People are very courteous and friendly. I would definitely go back there and would recommend to anyone looking for a great hotel in San Franisco.

Boutique Hotel Near Everything

I really liked Hotel Nikko; I used to live just up the street from hotel location so I knew neighborhood already, it is near absolutely everything-stores, restaurants and both Muni and Bart. It is 2 blocks from Bart station in front of Westfield Center if you are coming in from airport. The hotel was lovely, everything was very clean and modern. I would say the only negative was the room was a little small but that may have been because it was a corner room, so the views made up for it! Did not eat at hotel, but had drinks in bar-very nice. I would definitely stay there again.

The best hotel service in our experience

We checked in New Year,s Eve. We had made reservations for the hotel’s wonderful restaurant Anzu but our flight was delayed and we missed our reservation seating. The hotel staff called the restaurant and had them wait for us. Check in was quick and we were on our way to celebrate a wonderful New Year. We paid a little extra and our room was on a top private floor with wonderful views and a bathroom that looked like a separate apartment. We had a choice of a complimentary breakfast and/or a full breakfast in the hotel restaurant, Anzu(incredible!!)The indoor pool and hot tub were perfect for relaxation. The spa was beautiful (very zen like): steam room , sauna, lockers.towels, showers and a gym facility. It was free for those on the private floor worth the extra money which was excessive. Our greatest raves goes to thehotel staff from the maintenance staff to the restaurante wait personnel. They were so friendly and accomodating and made our stay that much more enjoyable.

I WANT A REPEAT

Room was nice, a little small but neat and clean with big screen tv. Maid service was good. Spa was fantastic. Pool, steam, sauna, towel service, weight room, deck chairs for naps - you could live there!!!!!! Hotel Nikko must be a good place to work because THERE WAS NO ATTITUDE!!!! Recomend it to everyone!

Second visit as good as the first

My father travels from Europe to be with us at Christmas. This is the second year we booked him at the Nikko. He loves this hotel. It is located downtown near Union Square. It is a clean, modern, luxury style hotel with an excellent and professional staff. His room this time had an even better view, which my father loved. The location is great as it was so convenient for my father to take public transporation to my part of the city as well as other areas he wanted to explore. As long as the rates stay competitive, we will use this hotel again.

Hotel Nikko was fine

Only one complaint: there was no one at the concierge desk for our first 3 days there, when we would have asked for neighborhood recommendations.

Once again, Nikko is awesome

This was my third stay at the Nikko Hotel. The room appeared to be updated. The bed was extremely comfortable. The layout of the bathroom was wonderful -- and it appeared extremely updated. Nice seperate vanity area, separate shower area (with great water pressure). Located right at Union Square in SF. From all staff to the appearance and condition of lobby area, restaurants, and room, everything was wonderful. Beware of the fee for parking. I did not know about it and was surprised at check-out of the fee (and how expensive it was).
