Very Pleased

Comfortable bed and wonderful sheets and comforter. Great view, updated bathroom (though I thought the shower head is too low, I am 5 feet 10 and I felt like I had to crouch under it to wash my hair), water pressure not as good as home! I thought there would be more "Johnny on the Spot" door men and bellhops, but it is a big hotel and very busy. Overall, great experience, great location, good price for downtown San Fran, we will be back for sure. Front Desk and consierge could be more informative, curious, anxious to please.

Any time of year, always bring a scarf or shawl (cotton or silk) to San Fran for when it is chilly to keep neck warm, I find that helps. Wear comfortable shoes (but fashionable) as the streets are mighty steep (great work out). Always have lots of ones and five dollar bills (for tips at hotels and public transport) and quarters for parking meters. Consider buying a muni pass for all day excersions on buses, and cable cars (the muni pass works on the cable cars and since the cable cars are 5 bucks a ride, this is a good way to go.

A great place to stay in San Francisco

Conveniently located near Union Square this massive hotel is always a great place to stay. It is a short walk to many of the city’s famous locales, such as, China Town, Nob Hill, Union Square, Buena Yerba Park and transportation to nearly everywhere is steps away. The restaurant at the hotel is top notch and there are hundreds of nearby dining options. My only complaint is the lack of free WiFi in the hotel. Otherwise a compliment to the Hilton Hotel chain.

Sames as all Hiltons

During this trip I stayed on 3 different hotels and I liked the the Union Square Hilton the least. It has good service although a little impersonal. The Hotel decor seems stuck in 1990 but the rooms were always clean and spacious. The location couldn’t be better although there were plenty of homeless people outside. This is not a Hilton-specific problem. You’ll have this issue with every hotel in the Union Square district. Recommended only if you can find a good rate/promotion.

S.F. Not What It Used to Be

The hotel was exactly what you would expect for a Hilton. But, we were disappointed with San Francisco in general. We encountered a number of agressive homeless people. There were vacant (even boarded up) buildings. Fisherman’s Wharf was an endless series of T-shirt shops. And lastly, there were very long waits for the cable cars. On a positive note, we met a number of very friendly people ... both native and tourist.

We found Carmel to be as charming as ever!

Excellent location!

The hotel is very well located. You can visit all the city atractions without spending money in car rental. The restaurants around the hotel are very nice and they are not expensive. You have places for shopping all around the building and its very safe if you go north east. Chinatown is just 10 min walking distance and the public tranportation is just at the door of the hotel entrance. Also, the hotel has a very nice fitness area with a very convinient schedule.

Going to San Francisco during this season (October to November) is excellent. The weather is good and because its low season you can visit the city with calm and at your own pace.

Smoking in California

Overall our stay was quite pleasant with one exception - we chose this hotel because they had smoking rooms which we reserved, however when we checked in there were none available. Since they have only 18 smoking rooms one wonders when they were reserved - two years ago? We reserved ours over a month in advance. In any case our stay was untroubled and the prices good.

bad

"plumbing issues" resulting in cold showers and toilets which repeatedly do not flush. Absolutety disgusting. Beggars and homeless people in very close vicinity do not really add to the ambience.

Excellent option

Ideally located, right in the heart of Beverly Hills and equidistant (almost) to Santa Monica, West Hollywood, etc. The hotel has the charm of good times of old without renouncing to today’s comforts. Definitely go for the tower rooms/suites (not the poolside cabanas).

Convenient, Affordable, Clean

What more are you looking for from a hotel? It’s blocks from Union Square, totally clean, and well run. It’s a bit of a mob scene when a tech conference is in town, but nothing you can’t handle.

Care to park your car?

The primary reason we stayed at teh Hilton was the ’park your car’ package - We had our car in San Sfrancisco, and we needed a hotel - in a good neighborhood - that gave us parking as part of the package deal. It was a good choice. Great restaurants in the area , close to Chinatown and Union Square, and easy to get to.

Incredible view!

Best Hilton in San Francisco - my 22yr old son checked into this hotel prior to my arrival - his credit card was expired and his cell phone has been destroyed at airport security but this wonderful hotel still allowed him to check-in! In fact, he was assigned a room with the most breathtaking Bay view when he commented that he was meeting his Mom as a treat at the end of her very hectic work week! I cannot say enough about how thoughtful the Staff were and how beautiful this hotel is. I would definitely recommend this Hilton Hotel to others!

Traveler's tip on dining

There is the most incredible Chinese restaurant right around the corner - The Oriental Pearl. Not much from the outside but walk up the stairs and I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Average

Hilton San Francisco Union Square has a beautiful lobby entrance. The rooms were clean, but on the small side. Did not offer good views.

If your going to San Francisco for leisure, stay on Fisherman’s Wharf. That’s where all the excitment is. Union Square is more for business. In addition, the streets are very busy.

Great Place to Stay

Wonderful room with magnificent view of San Francisco skyline and bay. Rates were reasonable and competitive. Very friendly service and staff was extremely helpful. Great location near Union Square. Gym had everything I required and even during peak hours was easy to utilize. Will definitely stay here again when visiting San Francisco.

Great service from maintenance engineer

Our faucet in the bath tub was not working. A call to the front desk produced an engineer in minutes. He was very gracious and efficient and fixed the problem within the hour. I needed a hot bath and his timely help was appreciated.

One of the best in Union Square

This was our first time in this hotel, because we like to try new hotels when we visit SF. The Hilton was in a great location. It was very close to Chinatown, Union Square, and surprising not too far from Coit Tower. The room was in perfect shape. Clean bathroom and linens. We stayed for two nights and were comfortable each night. I would highly recommend giving the Hilton a try.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Union Square is right in the middle of the city for tourists, and this hotel was a great pick.
