Great relaxing place

I only spent a night but it was the best night of sleep I’ve had in a while. The three of us had come in from long flights so we were tired but also hungry. There were a few restaurants close by which we could choose from. We were quite satisfied with with the restaurant we went to. The next morning I asked my co-workers how they slept and they just wished they could stay longer and enjoy the view from their patio of the city and the ocean. I would definitely come back again and I’m very sure my co-workers would too.

Fair location; poor quality service and rooms

I would not recommend the Hilton Doubletree. We requested 2 rooms near each for our family. We booked 5 months in advance. The rooms we received were 6 floor apart and on opposite sides of the hotel. One was a "suite" with ocean view. It was extremely small and not very clean. I have stayed in better Holiday Inns. The hotel is on the West side of Waikiki, which we found convenient to drive to from the airport, and for shopping. The beach is about a 10 minute walk down the street and through the park or through another Hotel’s complex.

Look to come back again

Overall everything was pretty good. the staff were curteous and friendly. If I come back to Oahu again, I will definitely being staying here again. Waikiki Beach is very close and so is mostly everything else.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Everything is mostly within walking distance to the Doubletree

Okay with poor bathroom

Didn’t really spend much time in the hotel room, but it was clean and comfortable. A tiny sink in the bathroom was useless. The shower was small and the bench in the shower made it even worse.

We’ll stay there again

Went went the kids this time. Not too bad besides not having privacy. We’ll stay there again, just maybe in a bigger room.

We enjoyed our stay

We liked our stay, it was Hawaii. We rented a car and wasn’t really happy about the $25 a day parking. Because it was valet. But we survived in paradise.

Avoid at all costs - poor value and lousy service

Folks can do far better in Waikiki. The only positive thing I can say is that the lobby/public area is fairly nice. This hotel is a poor value even for the relatively inexpensive rate by Waikiki standards. Plus, the management seems to operate in the spirit of gouging people for add ons as they charge $25 a day for parking (at this much less than high class hotel) and they wanted $40 for a rollaway bed (AN ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS GOUGING RATE - we declined even though one of our sons slept on the floor). By typical Doubletree standards the place is an absolute dump with old frayed carpeting and generally dated sterile rooms in acute need of being renovated. Worse yet, it is clear that furniture is not necessarily moved to vacuum and clean in corners. The coup d’ etat was - while I know the hotel staff had no control over the massive power outage that struck Oahu during our stay - when I walked down to the lobby the morning of the outage and saw a buffet breakfast set up there. Naive me as I thought "cool, at least the management is doing something to mitigate our inconvenience." Alas, no such luck - just one more opportunity to gouge the "guests" at $10 a head for greasy eggs, meat and potatoes as people had no real alternatives. Heck, they didn’t even offer free coffee. Clearly, this management team either had no clue or simply did not care. AVOID the ALANA DOUBLETREE and don’t make the mistake of assuming it’d be decent because it is a Doubletree - like I did!!!

Excellent Hotel

The Doubletree Hotel is the hotel I always choose while in Oahu. The staff are wonderful and very informative when asked anything. The only downsides are 1. The porte cochere is really small and getting in and out can be a little difficult sometimes but the valet staff move cars around rather quickly. 2. The plumbing in my rooms always seems to drain slowly in the sinks as well as in the tubs.

Traveler's tip on dining

Walk to the Wailana Cafe only one block away for excellent breakfast!

They didn’t have the hawaiian spirit

Coming to the hotel we drove in to the garage to park and when we checked in they really hassled us because they only have valet parking. We tried asking a guy about the parking situation, but he didnt speak english. They were very rude. When I got to my room they initially gave me the wrong room category so i called down immediately to complain and they argued with me and acted like I was lying, but found another room so gave it to me. I later came down and showed them my reservation that I did have the larger room and they didnt apologize. The room had a small fridge but it didnt work and the sofa sleeper didnt have any linens. This hotel had the rudest staff that I have encountered.

Great Place to stay

We recently returned from Hawaii and stayed at the Douletree. The view was awesome and the room had a balcony , which I wasn’t aware of prior to arriving. We had NOT requested a smoking room but they happily changed us to one. The service was great and it is very close to shopping and eating spots. You HAVE to check out the Walaina Coffee house for the best macadamia nut pancakes!! The price was affordable too. Overall, I would reccommend.

A Wonderful Hotel Experience!

Doubletree Alana Hotel provided me with first-rate hotel accomodations & was an extraordinarily good value, especially for the price as compared to other hotels in Waikiki Beach. My room was very clean & luxurious, & all personnel were friendly, helpful, & eager to be of service. Hotel amenities were plentiful & my service dog was welcomed. The coup de grace was the delicious, warm chocolate chip cookie which staff graciously bestowed upon me every single evening during my stay. I would definitely stay at Doubletree Alana Hotel again & I’ll enthusiastically recommend this hotel to friends & family!

I also highly recommend the Diamond Head Crater hike & the Downtown Honolulu & North Shore tours with Oahu Nature Tours - Fantastic!

A nice stay for the money

The front desk was very helpful in getting us around. The valets were very patient and professional with us. The hotel is not a luxury stay, but who said it had to be? It was very nice and very adequate for our needs. We loved the fact that it is only a couple of blocks from the beach. Good shops and restaurants within a block or two radius.

A safe, convenient, and comfort experience at Doubletree Alana

Doubletree Alana offers warm receiption at the front desk. All my questions are well answered. I got easy-to-use maps to walk around the area and found awesome restaurants. My room was awesome--clean, quiet, well decorated, and the most important, I got an ocean view. I enjoyed my breakfast while watching the blue ocean and the green palm trees. The location of the hotel is wonderful. It was very easy to shop, eat, and have a walk around. A lot of places are within the walking distance, like the beach, the International Market Place, the Macy’s shopping mall, and so on. I also felt convenient to book tours in the lobby, where there is a information desk set by a travel agency. I had a tour in the morning of my last day in Hawaii, and my plane was in the afternoon. I applied to extend my check out time. Although I just got one extra hour, it was still a help to make sure I can get back to my room to get changed without missing the check out time. Overall, I recommond Doubletree Alana to the visitors. It is a good place to stay while in Wakiki.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

There is a tradition in Hawaii: girls wear flowers on their ear. Married ladies wear flowers on their left ears, while single girls wear flowers on the right side. Don’t make a mistake! Please pay attention that, a flower wearing on your right ear may bring guys to you. If you are not willing to talk to guys, you may not want to wear it at all.

Check in was a breeze and hassle free

I got in very late in the evening and the check in line was relatively long. I was impresed with the efficiency and friendliness of the staff. The warm cookie was a bonus. The room was spacious and very clean. Room service was good but could be better foodwise, that is more choice.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you don’t have lots of time for a tour, take the Oahu Grand Circle Island Tour with Polynesian Adventure Tours and then you can visit some of the highlights that you emjoyed most on your own.

Nice hotel, but...

The room was great. The hotel was nice. The cookies are GREAT! However when I booked ine of the offers was free breakfast. When I got there this was not offered.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Eating it expensive in Honolulu! There is a diner down the street from the hotel that is not very expensive and have all you can eat pancakes for like 6 bucks.

Nice Stay for Kamaaina

Casual Local Resort. The front office staff was wonderful. Food service was good, not great, but the staff was always smiling and friendly and the food filled the hole, so to speak. Housekeeping was attentive and quick. Challenges with the parking as they were fixing the front drive, and the bellmen were obviously overwhelmed and a little unhappy, but other then that it was fine. A bit on the expensive side for parking, over $20 per night per vehicle, but competitively priced with other resorts in the area that I could see. The family LOVED the cookies upon check in...took 2 dozen home with me and am looking online for the recipe. :) Partial Ocean view, means you have to look between buildings around you to see the ocean...it is Waikiki after all. Well worth the price we paid and more. What a deal!

The Queen Doubles have (2) beds and a fold out couch in a seperate room (divided by sliding doors)...makes for plenty of room. Can probably sleep up to (6) comfortably, though not REALLY enough room to add a rollaway into the mix without cramping the room up. Lots of closet space too - (2) closets and an armour.Next time, I’ll try to get a room away from the Ice Machine and elevators though.

Convenient to Convention Ctr & beach

Convenient for the short walk to Convention Center and beach. Staff were friendly and helpful. Decent place to stay if you aren’t looking for resort amenities. Quite a bit of street noise (10th flr room).

Away from the chaos

This hotel is close to the convention center and several blocks away from the insanity of Waikiki. Some good restaraunts and high-end shopping are just a few blocks away. Traveler’s Tip:

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The breakfast buffet at the DoubleTree is pretty pricey. To get a really good breakfast at a reasonable price walk a block to the Wailana Coffee House. There might be a line there but it’s worth the wait.

can’t wait to go back

Our hotel was really nice except for the couch that turns into a bed. I was not at all comfortable. We had to almost flip for the next person to sleep on it. And the tub, was too high to climb into ,and i am 5’4 . Plus the refrig was alittle too small, if you plan on staying a few days.Over all, I would rate it a least a 4 1/2. I would most likely go back but I would sleep on one of the beds.

Have Fun make the best of your time with families and friends. Plan your activties together or let each person select something that they want to do. The vacation is not only for you keep that in mind but most of all Have fun!!!!
