Nice hotel, but service and convenience came at a high price

The hotel was nice -- my only complaint is the extremely high prices for food, movies, or anything you could buy from the hotel. The service was good, but you paid for it (with gratuity and service charges already added into room service bills). The food was good, but VERY expensive. The hotel also charged for in room internet service, which I believe is highway robbery -- it’s the internet, make it convenient for guests who are already paying to stay there. Lastly, you had to pay for either valet service, or pay by the hour to keep your car in the parking garage. It came out to roughly $12-14 a night, except on Sunday morning. I’m not saying it wasn’t a nice hotel, but the charges left and right got out of hand. Just be prepared.

Will be back again

Stayed at this hotel for a business trip. Highly recommend the sports bar on the main floor - beef bar-b-que was fantastic! Hotel staff EXTREMELY helpful and nice. They totally "get" customer service!! My room was very clean and well maintained during my stay. Would recommend this hotel to everyone. I’ll defintely book a room when I need to be back in that area.

Not up to competition

While the service and quality of the room were what I expected from a first run hotel, I was put off by the fact that there wireless service came at a substantial daily price. In today’s technologically oriented environment, this should be part of a hotel’s basic package. I will consider other hotels before I return to the Hyatt for this reason.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you do stay here, there is a San Francisco Bakery across the courtyard that offers breakfast at significantly cheaper prices.

Royal treatment

We were in town for one night to go the OSU game. The hotel was comfortable and exceptionally luxurious for the price. Huge room, great temperature, exceptional bed, great view, superior shower. The sports bar downstairs was nice for a late dinner. We will definitely stay again. Downside - parking isn’t great unless you pay $20 for valet.

Traveler's tip on dining

You must try the German restaurant - not far - called Schmidt’s Sausage Haus. Nice atmosphere -great food.

Poor Value

When one pays an aggressive premium rate for a for a 4-star Hyatt hotel in Columbus, Ohio there is a level of expectation created. The pricing I am sure represented that it was a football week-end but the room was a big disappointment. Room was dated and showed a lot of use. When I called at 2:00 am to complain about a loud group in the next room, I was told to wait twenty minutes and if the noise continued to call back. The front desk staff to their credit removed breakfast charges from my bill when I reported this. Will definitely look for another hotel the next time I come to town.

Very Impressed

The room (including the bathroom) was very spacious. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was a great view from our room! We had no problems whatsoever during our stay.

Traveler's tip

The surrounding blocks of the hotel were very beautiful and worth taking a stroll by foot.

Decent in good location

The bed was very comfortable, but I was surprised that there was no mini fridge or microwave. I didn’t think to look at that on the initial reservation as I assumed that they were everywhere. The bathroom was clean but in older shape. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

German Village is a short walk down 3rd street. Not a lot to look at but a few neat stores. Local Deli was good but a bit expensive. Schmidts has great cream puffs!

Poor Service from Staff

I was very disappointed with the staff and the service I received. My friends and I waited outside in the freezing rain for almost twenty minutes while the valet went to get our car. The daytime front desk clerk was very unfriendly. The evening clerk was much more friendly and helped with directions and restaurant suggestions. The hotel is older but well maintained. The staff could use a tune up!

Stay was ok

I enjoyed the hotel. My room was nice however the set of the room was not very comfortable. I did not like the fact the bed was not postioned with the tv. I like to fall asleep watching the news and the room set up made that difficult. Other than that the staff was very helpful in locating and directing me to where i needed to go.

If you’re looking for perfect you may want to look elsewhere.

We stayed at this hotel for an Ohio State football weekend. We have stayed at many other hotels in the area but we were new to this one. We enjoyed the hotel but there were a few small details that we weren’t impressed with. First of all, it’s a very old looking and feeling hotel; the walls are SUPER thin. We heard everything that went on in the rooms on either side of us. If the elevator opened or closed, or if someone let their door close, it shook the room. Our iPod alarm clock was completely broke, there were holes in the ceiling and only 1 of the 4 lamps worked. If you stay here, I reccommend parking in the attached City Center parking garage- their valet parking is expensive. One good thing- because we had "issues" with one or more things in the room, they gave us a complimentary breakfast buffet coupon to their onsite restaurant. (We wouldn’t have went otherwise- just our two breakfasts cost $75!!) For OSU games, it’s a bit far from the stadium compared to other hotels we stayed at. The cab cost over $25. They have a small but fun onsite sportsbar that only served a few dishes but the atmosphere was fun and the drinks and food were good!

Good choice for Columbus travel

Hotel is clean and well appointed. Staff is friendly and helpful with directions. Parking rates in the adjacent City Center garage have gone up, and one has to use an automated gate payment apparatus to exit (takes credit cards, but no coins other than $1 pieces -- like anybody ever has one of those handy); still cheaper and more convenient than valet parking. There isn’t a gift shop on the premises, but there’s a shop with drinks, snacks, magazines, etc. just off the lobby in the City Center walkway that is open until 9:00 p.m. Overall a good experience this time around.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Darby’s sports bar on the ground floor has a Wii system for the patrons -- and the staff will compete with you if they have the time. Try the bowling program!

Very Disappointing

This hotel is shabby and old. The rating is not justified and is therefore misleading. The other Hyatt (at the Convention Center) is much better and is near great clubs and restaurants. Parking (valet)is expensive and getting your car is slow. We were extremely disappointed.

Stayed August 1,2008

I was disapointed in the hotel. We arrived and the room was clean but there was only one bath towel for two people. We called and the manager brought some up unfolded. The towel hook fell off the wall. The shower handle was about to fall off. I left a tip for the maid and said no need to change the sheets but she did not even make the bed. We had breakfast in the hotel. It was $70.00 for my husband and I and two guests that met us in the morning. We stayed at the hotel because it was rated one of the best in the city. It was NOT worth the money.

Fireworks and All

I requested an upper room with a view. Not only did we have a great view we could see quite a bit of the red, white and boom. Even though they said we couldn’t see it. Everyone there was so friendly. We love it and will stay there again the next time we are in Columbus.

It was nice but could have been better

I enjoyed the room and the view was impressive. I did not enjoy the "pay to park". The cost should be included in your room price and not an additional $21. The hallway carpets need replaced and were very dirty. I would assume that they would run a sweeper. We had to walk through a large amount of paper and misc dirt that could have been easily cleaned up. The room was very nice and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The shower and bathroom was also enjoyable.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

On the same city block you can enjoy the Ohio Theater. We went and enjoyed a wonderful show.

Smoking

If you are a smoker dont count on requesting a smoking room. They have only one floor dedicated to smoking. We had to travel down ten floors every time we wanted to smoke. That was the only complaint.

Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This!!!

This is a fantastic hotel. It is very lovely. The rooms are nicely furnished, very upscale. The beds are plush, very comfy. We had a room on the 17th floor with the most incredible view of the city. The city lights at night were beautiful. We took an evening walk around the area, the city was clean, but very very quiet. Almost no one around, it was a Sunday night but even though it seemed strangely quiet. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning a stay in Columbus.

Not too bad

We had a couple issues with our bathroom (no shampoo, bad toilet) as soon as we checked in, but the rest of the stay was great!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

It was walking distance from the Palace and Ohio Theaters as well as several restaurants.
