Lisbon, Portuguese's capital, is roughly 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the south of Alenquer.
When it comes to getting the best out of your vacation, remember that Alenquer is just just the start; Lisboa e Vale do Tejo has been blessed with a treasure-trove of fabulous things to see and do. Head 13 miles (21 kilometers) east from Alenquer to Torres Vedras, where you can enjoy the Santa Cruz Beach and Porto Novo Beach (Praia de Porto Novo).
Around 19 miles (31 kilometers) to the southwest of Alenquer is Mafra, a regional center home to Mosteiro Palacio Nacional de Mafra, Aldeia Tipica and Norte Beach (Praia do Norte). Mafra has much of interest for visitors keen to explore a little deeper. Sol Beach (Praia do Sol), Torre Vedras Castle and Praca da Republica are just a sample of the other interesting places not to pass by.
If you are looking for indoor activities, you can't do better than Lisboa e Vale do Tejo's excellent art museums and history museums. These are good places to learn about the local lore and culture and perhaps find a special gift or two.
Pack your equipment or rent it locally, and discover the local water activities. Scuba diving is one option. Another good option is canoeing.
As your time here comes to close, you'll be sure to bid Alenquer a sad "Adeus"
