Arao isn't the only place in Kyushu and Okinawa worth exploring; those with enough time can also set out to see the unique qualities of the surrounding scenery, cities and towns. If you're keen to explore more of the region, you'll find Saga, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the southeast, and Kumamoto 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the northwest.
When it's time to spread your wings, why not visit the nearest regional center. Kumamoto lays 20 miles (32 kilometers) away and features visitor attractions including Mount Aso, Honmyo-ji Temple and Suizenji Gardens. Kumamoto Castle, KKWing Stadium and Aso National Park are also good places to spend a little time.
When the weather's great, why not take the chance to explore Kyushu and Okinawa's open-air markets, gardens and open-air museums?. This area is popular for its range of ruins; these are wonderful testaments to the area's rich history.
