We arrived by subway and I knew we may have chosen wrong by the feel of the walk from the subway. It’s a rough neighborhood. A few streets over, it’s better. They do have security in front of the hotel, though. I love a balcony and was excited about the one offered at The Stanley, but; the view was not good. Our view was worn down and abandoned buildings, old hotels, and worst of all, no furniture to sit outside. I went to the front desk to discuss this and was treated like I was ridiculous for wanting somewhere to sit on the balcony that I paid extra for. I don’t know that I have ever been treated so poorly at a front desk. He started talking about cheap outdoor furniture and that’s not what they do at The Stanley…well, I had just had lunch on their rooftop where there was plenty of outdoor furniture…it made no sense at all. There was no attempt to work with me-I was dismissed. The water in the lobby was always empty, tiny bathrooms, weird smell in the room (dirty mop?), the pool was tiny and always full with nowhere to sit, and other than the restaurant, everything felt dated. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay. We travel a lot and The Stanley was very, very rough around the edges.

The rooftop pool is chic and comfortable when it is not overcrowded. I would’ve been happy to sit there every sunset. The rooms and the rest of the hotel are small and shabby. I could barely turn in the shower. And, our room had few amenities that you might expect from an American four-star hotel. The neighborhood was also a bit shabby. I didn’t feel unsafe, and it was easy to travel from there on the metro. But I always wanted to get through the neighborhood as quickly as possible.

Rooftop pool is a nice escape in the Athens heat, the cafe was a great place for a quick bite and coffee before starting the day. Rooftop dinner (and view) was very nice.

Happy to have checked into a clean room. Door was a bit heavy (weird detail, I know) so watch out for that. The area itself isn’t beautiful, but a 10-15 minute walk to Plaka and it’s like you’re in a different world. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Rooftop pool is amazing in the evening- go for sunset or a little later and hangout with a drink.

Nice central location. Very helpful and courteous staff. Rooms are a bit small but well appointed the pool scene is a bit hectic but nice for younger people. The restaurant on the ninth floor is excellent with superb food.
