This was our second year in a row to stay at the flying L Ranch. This resort has the potential to be one of the best in the Texas hill country, but management needs to change. The Branding Iron restaurant only has pizza, sandwiches, and appetizers, we so wanted steaks. The food they serve is excellent. Also the “Live Music” that we looked so forward to was not inside but held outside on a Texas 98 degree night, the manager said they did not have enough seating to have the entertainment inside. You have to carry a card or cash to every spot in the resort, nothing is allowed to be billed to the room. The water park is great. However, you have to leave your credit card if you want a tab at the bar, which is not a problem except they do not serve soft drinks, therefore you have to go to a different location to get food and soft drinks, and you need your credit card at that location. So keeping drinks for the entire family is an issue. The resort is in need of TLC. Two playgrounds that we saw were leaning appearing to be waiting on collapse, we would not let our daughter near them. The cabins last year were non inhabitable due to lack of sufficient ac. This year we stayed in a two room villa, it was much better but still not totally ac sufficient. Several plugs did not work and one was black and burnt looking. It is a shame that this resort is not maintained better, it would be one of our favorite places if were.
