"Simple, clean hotel in beautiful setting "
Came to this hotel with my family of four kids (8,11,15,18). Once we got over the lack of wifi (worked only in the bar area ) and the lack of snacks between meals (I liked this but kids did it) we loved the relaxing atmosphere, very helpful and friendly staff, the beautiful views, the amazing foliage and being woken up by the birds. Would definitely go back!

"Amazing Jungle Adventure"
We loved so many great things about our visit. Eating family style dinner with the other guests... honey mooners, families with children and seniors was so much fun. Hearing about their daily experiences was interesting & helped us plan our next adventures. Views of the river and tropical plants gave us a sense of being smack in the middle of the jungle. We loved the botanical gardens & admired how hard everyone works to keep the jungle "tame" for us to enjoy. We were even able to meet the friendly cheerful Ian Anderson himself who was so down to earth. The place is magical (the only thing we did not love were the over abundance of mosquitos who snacked our our feet ) but this was a tiny price to pay for the most amazing tropical adventures like the river tubing through the caves & swimming in the blue hole & adventuring up antelope trail only miles away. We could have just lounged by the beautiful pool ( surrounded by spectacular grounds) but felt there were just too many awesome excursions to experience (with cheerful staff ) to just relax by the pretty swimming pool (but that too would have been fun. ) thanks for a memorable vacation.

"Incredible Location!"
My husband and I were blown away by the view when we arrived at Gaia. What a gorgeous spot! Great food, great staff, we wish we had planned on an extra night here as we only stayed two nights. We loved hiking to Big Rock and we followed the river back to the lodge which was challenging but a great adventure. Swimming at the base of the falls was lovely! We biked up to Blancaneaux (owned by Francis Ford Coppola) and had a drink which was also a fun little adventure. Very remote and very beautiful!

"Comfort in the Jungle"
The resort is beautiful, and has a great staff. The room is great. I don't usually sleep well the first night in a new place, but I did at Ka'ana. Ka'ana is a little further from San Ignacio than it appears on the maps on Expedia, so you can't really walk to town. However, they will provide a shuttle during the day, or you can get a cab for $10. to walk into town. The restaurant and bar are good, but the menu doesn't change much from night to night. The vegetables from the organic garden were excellent.

Great hotel, a short walk into town / or a very very short golf cart ride. We were quite happy to be in quieter part of town and still along the water. It's not on a beach where you can walk in via sand (which I must warn you is hard to find in the cayes), but they have a ladder if you want to jump in. Good news is the pool was nice and clean and very refreshing. That side of the island also provides a nice breeze to keep you a cool. The staff was awesome, Kenny the bar-tender and server provides a good laugh and Maggie's kitchen serves up fantastic food in a fairly large serving! You must try the coconut shrimp (appetizer) and any of the local seafood dishes! Mmm The free breakfast was modest but the freshly made eggs are a nice touch for a continental breakfast, but the best part was definetly the fresh cinnamon bun bread / loaf! Yum! Also the free rum punch during happy hour. For the price (everywhere in Belize tends to run a little higher) we were definetly pleased with this hotel :)

"Great Place"
This is an elegant old 3 story house built in the 1920's in a historical area of Belize City. The hotel has marvelous large verandas on every floor. You can see the Caribbean from the 2nd and 3rd floor. In the morning the bird song was lovely and we saw beautifu red and yellow birds. The rooms were great, the staff was friendly and very helpful and the food at nearby Celebrity Restaurant was fabulous!

Very good base to explore the Island. Staff were very helpful and the room was clean. The Air Conditioning was a life saver and the WiFi worked from my room even though they had indicated I would only get it in the Common areas.

"Loved this resort!"
This resort is quite a distance from San Pedro, so you need to know that it will take a golf cart or water taxi to eat somewhere besides the hotel restaurant (which was very good), but as long as you know what you are getting into, you will be pleased! I can't say enough good about the hotel, and especially the staff! They were amazing! I just want to give a shout out to Joshua, Ida, Victor, Christian, Doughy, and Jose for making our trip amazing! Thank you!

"San Pedro Vacation"
Overall, great experience at Mata Rocks. The hotel was about 10 min drive to town. Great use of free bikes. Enrique was an absolute pleasure!!! The rooms look exactly as posted online. My only complaint, the seagrass and the smell. The pictures of the beach do not match what is online; HUGE let down. I understand Mata Rocks can't control nature, staff did clean up beach every morning, but I expected to atlas be able to access ocean ... unfortunately I wasn't able too. In all, I would stay again.

Best and Worst Times to Visit Belize

If you’re in search of warm temperatures and clear skies, plan a visit to Belize between November and May. This is the country’s dry season when you can expect 80-degree F weather. But because it’s the perfect season to head to the beach, the majority of tourists visit during this time.

Hurricane season lasts from June to October. Even if a hurricane doesn’t hit the coast, this period is considered Belize’s rainy season, especially from August to October. Temperatures usually linger around 70 and 80 degrees F during this wet season. If you don’t mind a chance of showers, you’ll score cheaper rates during these months.

    Things to Do

During your visit, soak up the sunshine and balmy temperatures at one of the many beaches in Belize. For serene shores lined with palm trees, make your way to the pristine coast along Placencia Peninsula, or lounge on the shores of Hopkins Beach. Next, grab your flippers and dive into the water at Caye Caulker, which boasts unrivaled snorkeling and scuba diving turf. Ambergris Caye and Blue Hole are two other popular dive spots with barrier reefs teeming with sea life.

In addition to its picturesque landscapes, Belize is home to a number of ancient Mayan ruins. Visit these sites to uncover the nation’s past and Mayan culture. Begin your adventures at Xunantunich, which features more than 25 palaces and temples, and then check out the scenic views from the structures at Cahal Pech. Don’t miss Lamanai, which is one of the largest Maya ceremonial spots, and then marvel at the remains at Barton Creek Cave. After exploring all day long, kick back at one of the best Belize resorts in town.
