Self catering cottage on organic smallholding in Highland Perthshire

Camnacar cottage is a converted stable on an organic smallholding. Chickens and ducks share the enclosed garden with a stream running through it. Conveniently located in the centre of the village, an award winning village shop with cafe are just across the street. There are also 2 pubs within walking distance serving food.
The cottage is both spacious, warm and comfortable with stripped pine floors downstairs and a wood burner in the large sitting room. The upstairs rooms have views to the hills beyond the village. Down filled duvets and firm mattresses ensure you will sleep well in this peaceful spot.
The kitchen is well appointed with dish washer, microwave and washing machine as well as wifi if you need to keep in touch. There is plenty of information about the local area and also books, DVDs and games for evenings at home.
The bathroom has a shower over the bath, there is another toilet downstairs.

The situation: Camnacar Cottage is set in a beautiful enclosed garden with plenty of space to explore (about 2 acres) A stream runs through the garden from which we will generate hydroelectricity. There are also a couple of duck ponds and you can enjoy walking around the garden and then on up the hill. We grow vegetables so home produce is available at certain times of the year. Babysitting can also be arranged.
The cottage is spacious for 4 or 5 with a baby. A large sitting room with a wood burning stove as well as a table for dining or there is one in the kitchen if you prefer. We provide fruit, bread, milk and other basics for when you arrive but Kirkmichael Village Shop (community run) is very close, and has pretty much everything you need. The cottage is warm and all the rooms have adjustable central heating and the beds are all comfortable. The kitchen has all the usual equipment such as washing machine, dish washer, microwave, fridge freezer and wifi. Tv and DVD player with large collection of DVDs for you to browse.

The surrounding area: The village of Kirkmichael has a general store and cafe as well as the Strathardle Inn, The Kirkmichael Hotel and the Log Cabin Hotel, which all provide food and comfortable fire side chat. Over the bridge there are a good variety of walks in all directions and many more up and down the Ardle valley, maps etc in the cottage. There are also good tracks for cyclists (as long as you don't mind a few hills...) Nearby mountains include gorgeous views from Beinn Vrackie, Beinn a'Ghlo the nearest munro and famous and ancient Schiehallion. Wildlife abounds, we regularly see deer on the hills round about and red squirrels often play in the garden. Our own animals include chickens and usually ducks, children are welcome to help at feeding time.

Things to do: Activities such as walking, golfing, rock climbing, mountain biking and mountaineering are all popular. For those fond of whiskey, the charming family run Edradour distillery is the oldest in Scotland, also Dalwhinney and Dewars distilleries are close by. Relax at a number of health farms in the area such as the Lavendar Spa in Pitlochry . Horse riding can be arranged at Glenmarkie, a beautiful area to explore. Try a visit to the Wee House at Glenshee for local crafts, the visitor centre or homemade cakes on a wet day. Shop at the popular House of Bruar with the impressive Falls of Bruar behind. Snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding is easily accessed from the Cairnwell ski centre. Golf courses are also plentiful.

We had a great stay in this cosy cottage, fab location with some nice walks from the village, and plenty to do in the nearby area. The children enjoyed watching the chickens, and we really enjoyed the eggs and fresh bread the owners kindly left us. A really relaxing weekend away

Storm Babet Hideaway
A lovely cottage run by the very friendly Hannah and her family. Tucked away at the back of Kirkmichael, this delightful house made an excellent base for a wet and windy half term break. We travelled in advance of the Storm warnings and Hannah made sure we were happy with the arrangements and safe. The wood stove kept us warm throughout, as did the surprise, freshly baked bread from Hannah! It was quite blowy for walks around the village but once the storm passed we were able to travel to Pitlochry, Killicrankie and other local sights. Great area, lovely traditional stone cottage and a very hospitable host.

Lovely people, lovely property
Hannah and Miles were most welcoming and very helpful. The cottage was cosy and well located. Bedrooms were comfortable and the four of us slept incredibly well. We covered around 1600 miles in seven days. Being central in Scotland made it possible to get to interesting places with ease. The A9 linked us to Loch Ness, Edinburgh, Doune Castle and many other places. Would heartily recommend.

Short-stay with Canadian Relatives (BC Residents)
Wonderful wee place for a chill-out with sister and brother-in-law. They loved the open walks and mix of rural lowland and highland scenery. Village shop and cafe excellent - sister said she has had the best oatmilk decaff lattes ever, served to outside table in the sun too. Kirkmichael Hotel ideal for local ales and bar meals. (NB: You must book as space limited and more visitors than table-places in Strathardle over the summer !). So sad to leave, but needs must. Highly recommended for those seeking a stay with both character and comfort. Hannah and Miles just excellent as hosts. Duncan Cameron.

A little gem in beautiful Kirkmichael
We had a lovely stay in Camnacar Cottage in Kirkmichael. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and very well equipped. The home baked bread and the fresh eggs were a lovely treat from the hosts and the fresh flowers made it very welcoming. The village shop and local pub were a ver short walk away. Thanks very much, we will definitely recommend this cottage to others

A lovely stay
Found the cottage, lovely and comfortable. The property has everything required for making meals if you choose to eat in. There is a pub within walking distance as well as a small shop. We tried some delicious pies. The upstairs had a quaint area to sit and read, (many books to choose from) with a skylight to be able to view the night sky. During our stay the constellation Orion clearly seen. Downstairs had a cosy lounge area and an abundance of DVDs, some games and a wood fire. The water was refreshingly pure. No need to buy bottle water. The cottage is settled in areas of beautiful scenery and one place well worth visiting was Pitlochry, about 12 miles away. Regardless of the way we travelled to see places, our drives would embrace the surrounding beauty with its sheep/cattle and mountains with snow covered tops. The roads tended to be very good. On our return, it was appreciated that the cottage was comfortably warm when coming in from the cold. We found both Miles and Hannah approachable, helpful and pleasant.

No stone unturned - Everything is covered!!
We had such a beautiful and special holiday. The best part isn't even advertised (we refer to it as the secret garden). The most special place to get engaged!! My 6 year old took photos of the proposal on the bridge. There was nothing forgotten in this cottage!! The house was warm despite our late arrival and the fire already set up so all we had to do was light it. There was milk in the fridge, butter and a hamper including fresh coffee, homemade jam and wine on the table. Fresh bread was made and brought over to us the next day. We have to admit, it was so cosy on arrival, we all fell asleep and camped out in the lounge on the first night. The beds were comfy, the house warm enough from the fire alone, the garden with tree swing, waterfalls and chickens the perfect combination for kids and the amenties were all there for cooking daily, making jelly or baking. We will definately be back next year!! Thank you Hannah and Miles for our memorable and faultless stay!!

Hannah and Miles are wonderful hosts and their cottage is delightful! We fell in love with it as soon as we stepped in. Lots of character, everything you need facilities-wise and a lovely welcome hamper. The rooms are so comfortable (especially beds and bedding - so cosy), lovely wood burner in the lounge. The location is great, 2 min walk to hotel bar/restaurant, the lovely community-run village shop and lots of walks. We drove into Pitlochry a couple of times, but next time we stay (definitely!), we will happily chill out in Kirkmichael.
