Peruse the ever-changing exhibitions at this modern monument to German and international art, cultural history, science and archaeology on the Museum Mile.

Bonn’s Bundeskunsthalle is one of the country’s key showcases of art and cultural exchanges from around the world. Also known as the Kunst- und Austellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany), the Bundeskunsthalle stages temporary exhibitions and events of national and international significance. Check out what’s happening during your visit to Bonn and see a fascinating exhibition of art, history, culture, the environment, science or technology.

The museum opened its doors in 1992 to facilitate cultural exchange between Germany and the rest of the world. Expand your global perspective when you explore the Bundeskunsthalle’s extensive program of exhibitions, discussions, concerts, lectures and workshops. As you approach the slickly designed museum, you’ll see its three futuristic spires pointing up into the sky. Walk across the broad courtyard and head to the foyer. Speak with the staff about what exhibitions are currently showing, or check out the posters, brochures and maps of the exhibition building.

You might see a retrospective of a famous artist, showcases of international contemporary art, biographies of intriguing figures in history, photo essays, cultural history exhibits, comic book archives or timelines of technology in this varied exhibition hall. Pair your visit with one of the exciting events in the Bundeskunsthalle program, such as a guided tour, artist talk, workshop or seminar. You may have to book ahead for limited places in English-language events.

The Bundeskunsthalle is located along Bonn’s Museum Mile, which features several of the city’s foremost museum institutions on one strip by the Rhine. Take the train to the Heussallee/Museumsmeile station, which is located a few minutes’ walk north of the museum. The Bundeskunsthalle is closed on Mondays and Christmas Day. Purchase a day ticket to all exhibitions for access to the whole museum or select inexpensive individual tickets for different exhibitions if there are only a few you’d like to see. Make the most of the museum’s happy hour ticket deal, which allows discounted admission 2 hours before the museum closes.
