Peaceful Downeast Maine Waterfront Cottage Amazing Views @Canadian Border

Winter, spring, summer or fall, forget your worries & feel your stress melt away in this charming waterfront 🏡.

Wake-up to glorious sunrises, relax on one of the many outside seating areas, swim, float, kayak, go boating, nap on the hammocks, sun bath, have a beach/pit fire, golf, hike, catch a movie or summer concert, or simply enjoy the incredible water views from the inside. There’s even a private office shed at the water’s edge with a Q sofa-bed should you need to work. You can do it all at RiverHouse.

RiverHouse is a traditional Maine farmhouse built in 1840, and sits on an acre of land on the St. Croix. It is flanked by a cove at each end with lit steps to the beach. It has been totally renovated while keeping its charm, and has amazing water views from every room. The driveway is large enough for a 🚤.

There are several seating areas and hammocks scattered throughout the property, and at night the trees are bathed in blue light & there are solar lights throughout the property-you’ll feel like you’re at a resort. There is a floating deck with sun loungers, a fire pit with free firewood, and a gravel patio with a dual pallet/gas grill and a wrought iron table. There is also a dining table at the water’s edge large enough for 10.

You can access the beach at either side of the property by lit stairs. There’s a rocky beach with an over-the-water (high-tide) deck. There are 4 adult & 3 youth kayaks and foldable sun loungers for your enjoyment.

Calais is your quintessential small American town with shops, restaurants and bars dotting Main St. It sits on the St. Croix River with 3 border crossings into Canada. There’s a movie theater, public library, boat launch, golf course, a waterfront walkway, and concerts are held during the summer at the riverfront park.

The St. Croix is saltwater and tidal, flowing into the Bay of Fundy which has the highest tides, and is full of freshwater and saltwater marine life.

RiverHouse is just 2 mins from the St Croix Country Club ⛳️, 5 mins from downtown, hiking trails, boat launch, & the Canadian border, 30 minutes from Eastport, 50 minutes from Lubec and Campobello Island (Roosevelt’s summer home) and 2 hours from Bar Harbor, Bangor and from Aroostook County. it is perfectly located for exploring unspoiled Downeast Maine, “The County” and Canada.

The Space:

1st FLOOR:

LIVING ROOM-fireplace, sofa and chaise & French doors opening to a gravel sitting area.

FAMILY ROOM-comfy sectional (large enough for 2 to sleep on), built-in smart TV & electric fireplace.

DINING ROOM-open with family room has a large 8 person dining table & French doors opening to a gravel patio (I ❤️ having dinner with the doors open enjoying the incredible view).

KITCHEN-wall to wall windows, double ovens, dishwasher, and fully stocked kitchen with every essential. You will find in the fridge and pantry complimentary basics such as bottled water, condiments, spices flour, pasta, ect.
SUNROOM-small dining table, sofa and 2 captain chairs, an electric fireplace for those chilly days, and wall to wall windows capturing the spectacular views. FULL BATHROOM: Walk-in-shower, ceiling heat, washer/dryer and complimentary shower gel, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, and toiletry.

2nd FLOOR:

3 bedrooms all with water views, comfy beds, and electric fireplaces (winter) fans (summer). There’s a chaise on the landing and an upstairs family room off the MBDR with sofas, and a half bathroom.

MBDR-window seat large enough for two with sweeping views of the St Croix and St. Stephens-my favorite spot to read and watch the eagles soar. The queen size bed faces large windows capturing glorious sunrises-can you picture yourself waking-up to such beauty.

PINK ROOM-antique iron full bed, and comfy overstuffed chair.

BLUE ROOM-two antique twin beds.

Lovely home with breathtaking views!
Can’t say enough good things about this house. It was perfect. Every detail was thought through from the abundance of cozy blankets to the cute fireplace heaters in every room. The house was super clean and just perfect. We only had two adults staying a few nights for work travel (pretending it was a girls week lol) but I could see it comfortably fitting lots of people as there was so much space! I wish it was warmer out so I could have taken advantage of the outside spaces. Hope I get to come back!

A Lovely Getaway
My family of 5 met up with my cousin & his family for two nights, and this house was the perfect spot. We had a relaxing time enjoying the house amenities and river view. Our kids did fine playing in the yard while being careful of the drop off. The owner was very responsive to communications. My only criticism is with Vrbo, which failed to send me the check in/out details - I recommended that there be a paper copy in the house for guests without the Vrbo app on their phone like me, which the owner said they would do in the future. Thanks for a nice stay in Calais!

Cozy at St Croix river
We have spent 2 beautiful days in this nicely renovated historical house on the bank of St Croix River in Calais Maine. House has rustic feel with all modern utilities. Kitchen is very well stocked. Common areas are very cozy and house is beautifully decorated. Outside area has lot of chairs, table, fireplace and hammock. We have enjoyed sunrise over St Croix River and Gabriela was very pleasant and responsive to any questions..

Quiet place for a family to relax
It’s a quiet place to relax our family enjoyed a longer weekend. It’s a old house on the water getting upgraded and less than an hour drive to Lubec and West Quoddy lighthouse which is the eastern most town/point in the US also borders Canada. Property manager was very communicative and we got all we wanted.
