Once you've been to all of the great attractions in Centrum, there's heaps more to explore in the surrounding area. Collect the keys to a rental car, throw your bags in the trunk and get going. We've pulled together some road trips we think you'll enjoy:

• Rotterdam is 35 miles from Centrum. Famous attractions like Erasmus Bridge deserve to be high on your must-see list here.
• Your next stop? Make it Amsterdam, which is around 55 miles away. Van Gogh Museum is one local highlight you won't want to miss.
• Get out into nature and inhale the fresh air at Lauwersmeer National Park. It's 140 miles from Centrum.

If you don't possess a driver's license issued in Netherlands, then it's likely you'll need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. It's also important to note that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll need to show your driver's license from your home country your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card you used to book the rental matches the name on your license and passport. Some additional requirements for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be at least 25 in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before you drive off the lot. Typically, you can't cross country borders, drive onto ferries or go off-roading with a rental car.
