When you've visited all of the fabulous attractions in Colombia, there's heaps more to see in the surrounding area. Collect the keys to a rental car, pack your bags in the trunk and get out on the open road. We've come up with some drives we know you'll love:

• Head off to San Juan for an excellent sightseeing experience. Roughly 70 miles from Colombia, it's home to loads of great sights, including San Juan Gate.
• Your next pit stop? It has to be Río Grande, which is around 85 miles away. Wyndham Rio Mar Golf Course is one local hot spot you shouldn't miss.
• Culebrita Beach is about 130 miles from Colombia and is one of the region's most gorgeous nature spots. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the fresh air.

If you don't possess a driver's license issued in Puerto Rico, then it's likely you'll need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence to be able to rent a car. You should also note that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll have to show your driver's license from your home country your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, it's important that the credit card you used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some additional requirements to rent a car internationally are:

• Age restrictions: You'll need to be at least 25 in most places to rent a car. If you're younger, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Make sure you read the rules and regulations before you drive away. Usually, you can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or on off-road areas with a rental car.
