When you've visited all of the amazing sights in Nishi-Shinjuku, there's loads more to see in the region. Collect the keys to a rental car, stow your bags in the trunk and get going. We've pulled together some road trips we're confident you'll enjoy:

• Ito is about 60 miles from Nishi-Shinjuku. Notable attractions like Izu Oceanic Park deserve to be at the top of your list here.
• Your next stop? Make it Nagano, which is around 110 miles away. Nagano Olympic Stadium is one local draw card you won't want to miss.
• Make your way to Shirotori Garden for a day out in nature. Take a picnic to enjoy or just recharge your batteries in the fresh air. From Nishi-Shinjuku, it's around 160 miles away.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in Japan, then you may need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence to be allowed to rent a car. Also consider that if you do need an IDP, it won't be valid on its own. You'll have to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of documentation as well.
