Once you've visited all of the great sights in Santiago, there's more to see in the surrounding region. Collect the keys to a rental car, stow your bags in the trunk and hit the open road. We've come up with some drives you're sure to enjoy:

• Head to Salamanca for a fantastic sightseeing adventure. Approximately 110 miles from Santiago, it's home to many great attractions like New Cathedral of Salamanca.
• Approximately 50 miles away, Badajoz is also popular with wanderers. Make time to take in Badajoz Fortress while you're in town. It's one of the reasons people love this thriving city.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Spain, then you'll likely need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country in order to rent a car.
