When you've covered all the terrific sights in Valparaíso, there's loads more to discover in the region. Pick up the keys to a rental car, toss your bags in the trunk and get on the road. Here are some road trips you're sure to enjoy:

• You'll find Japanese Island and lots more interesting sights in Cabo Frio. From Valparaíso, it's around 80 miles away.
• Next stop? Consider Angra dos Reis, which is around 80 miles away. Lopes Mendes Beach is one local hot spot you won't want to miss.
• Itamambuca Beach is about 130 miles from Valparaíso and is one of the region's most scenic nature spots. Go for a wander around and enjoy the fresh air.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in Brazil, then you'll likely need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. It's also important to note that if an IDP is required, it has no validity on its own.
