There are lots of things to see and do in Veracruz, but head farther afield and you'll find even more magic. Organize a set of wheels and you can wander around the surrounding area at your own speed. Add these fantastic destinations to your list:

• Head off to Ensenada for a fantastic sightseeing adventure. Roughly 50 miles from Veracruz, it's home to lots of amazing sights, including First Street.
• Approximately 90 miles away, Mexicali is also popular with travelers. Make sure you get to Plaza La Gran Via while you're here. It's one of the reasons people love visiting this buzzing city.
• Malecón San Felipe is about 160 miles from Veracruz and is one of the region's most gorgeous nature spots. Stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh air here.

If you don't possess a driver's license issued in Mexico, then you'll likely need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. You should also note that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll have to show your current license your passport and other forms of ID as well.
