Disappointing!Posted Aug 10, 2015
Pros: The proximity to the M4
Cons: Total renovation, new bed linens, better TV channels (not even freeview channels offered!), free Wi-Fi without strings attached, better breakfast area
Location: Lots - Cardiff for shopping, Brecon Beacons for outdoor activities, Big Pit, Millennium Stadium
My husband and I were travelling to Newport for a family occasion. We hadn't stayed at this particular hotel for many years and were looking forward to it as we are fans of the Holiday Inn brand. We were immediately disappointed by the drab foyer and rather long wait for the receptionist to come out of the back office. Check in was fast and straight forward, but we were somewhat surprised to find that Wi-Fi wasn't free unless we joined the loyalty programme, despite Expedia clearly stating it was free. The Wi-Fi code was changed every 24 hours, which we had to call down for each day - such a nuisance. The corridors and stairs were extremely dated and stiflingly hot. The smell was a cross between damp and stale. Our room was a big let down and nothing like we expected of a Holiday Inn - dated furniture, old bed, dreadful pillows and duvet, awful bedding. Our duvet cover was coming apart at the seams and the pillows and duvet felt like solid lumps of foam. The sofa was not hygienic! The bathroom was awful - cracked floor tiles, broken toilet roll holder, dated bath and shower, poor lighting. Breakfast was included in our room rate and the choice of breakfast items was impressive, but the quality of some of the cooked items was not as expected. The fried eggs had sat out for so long they were hard and rubbery and the bacon was fatty. The staff, however, were very pleasant and attentive, bringing fresh tea and coffee. The hotel needs some serious TLC!

Good stopover hotel and handy for Celtic Manor.Posted Jun 7, 2015 on Hotels
Good stay whilst attending a conference across the road at Celtic Manor and just needed a bed for a couple of nights. Breakfast was nice and buffet style, but with good selection.

Great StaffPosted Jun 4, 2015 on Hotels
Excellent staff, great breakfast shame about the noisy rooms. I could easily hear people in the rooms adjacent and above. Staff were great, very friendly and breakfast was better than most Holiday Inns.

Pros: Staff and food were excellent.
We used the Inn as a stop over going from wales to England. The room was comfortable despite being a little small in comparison to other hotels we stopped in during our trip

Great hotel close to resortPosted May 23, 2015
Room was really spacious well cleaned and good sized bed breakfast was also of a very good standard only criticism was when we entered reception staff wasn't around and also when we checked out had to wait 10 min for a member of staff to notice we were standing there other than that a great stay
