“The camper was nice and comfortable. The Island had a good breeze, so the mosquitos were almost non-existent, and the trees are tall and plentiful for shade and a good resting place for a bald eagle one morning we were there. We rented the owners fishing boat and it was very nice for checking out the the different islands and bays. Owner was very accommodating for making sure we had everything we needed and supplied multiple containers of gas and even ice in his own coolers, so we didn't have to……

“We loved our stay at Walden Retreats. Becky checked us in and was so welcoming and informative of our tent and things to do while we were there. I was worried that the tent would be warm in the first of August, but we kept the shades down during the day and the fans on. My husband and I actually woke up cold in the morning, so we were just fine. I couldn't believe how clean the tent itself was. They had special touches like robes, luxury bath towels, and fantastic smelling shampoo and……

“Clean, minimalist cabin far from the city, exactly what I was after. I didn't get water before it got dark and that was dumb of me, I would suggest finding the water pump during daylight. I would highly recommend and look forward to staying again”

“The location is great, especially if you’re planning to visit Buffalo Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, or Starved Rock. They also offer kayaking on-site, and I believe they offer discounts on kayaking if you’re staying at the campground. The nearest towns are about 10–15 minutes away, so you’re still fairly close to restaurants, stores, and other necessities. A few things to keep in mind: there are no showers, and the campground only has porta-potties. The grounds were okay but could……

“Perfect glamping getaway. You won’t regret it.”

“Beautiful spot, if you’re new to camping or have kids/dogs this is the place. The location was secluded and definitely has that up north feel. Great for getting out in nature and close to other things to do outside.”

“PerfectFor a two person overnight”

“Clean and beautiful. The bath houses were always very clean. Only down side is there’s a life lift (helicopter) right beside the tents and a train track close which creates a lot of extra noise when trying to sleep.”

“The property is very peaceful and quiet. It has the feeling of private camping experience. It had everything we needed for a weekend gateway.”

“Nice little cabin but the pictures are deceiving. Makes it look like there are two rooms and a kitchen. Ours was just one room with a mini fridge and microwave. I think you just get whatever room is available. They also said the restaurant (snack bar) was open until 7 and it was already closed at 6:40. Other than that the facility was nice and great family setting with lots of things to do. ”

“The campground was so peaceful an beautiful I can't wait to go back an camp out again”

“The host, Mike was fantastic always checking in with us to see if we needed anything. They even offer homemade pizza delivered to your site! Pizza was fantastic also. The tent was very cute and comfortable. Enough space for two. The location is very close to many things like shops and fuel. We hope to visit again soon.”
