8.2/10 Very Good! (7,349 reviews)
Jose at the concierge desk was so friendly and helpful; we appreciated his suggestions for where to check out around town as first time visitors of NY. Location is perfect, right at Penn Station and MSG, so walking almost everywhere worked very well. The hotel room was ok, as we were only there to sleep and shower. We were on the 29th floor. Very tiny and outdated room. Beds were comfortable, but overall it is much too expensive at $500+ per night for what we got. The TV is very old with staticky reception, only basic channels, with no option to stream from even my own Netflix or Prime accounts. No ice machine on our floor; had to go to the 28th or the 30th floors for ice. There was not even a mini fridge in the room. Bathroom was super tiny with no ventilation or fan, no ability to even crack open a window, so the ceiling and walls dripped with water from shower steam. The shower water temperature went from blasting hot to cold alternately instead of a constant warm, almost like cold and hot were taking turns flowing through the spout. Poor neighbors on the other side of the wall probably heard me squeal between getting scalded with hot and blasted with icy water. - In any case, we still had a good trip to NY apart from the hotel. I was just expecting a little more of a wow factor based on the history of The New Yorker Hotel.
