It's the closest place you can fly to after your forays into the rainforests of the Amazon near Iquitos, in order to reconnect with Peru's road network. There's a wonderfully laid-back vibe here, plenty of street art, local markets, as well as restaurants serving delicious regional specialities, and bars serving drinks made from soaking jungle roots in cane liquor. If you come here, stay at El Mirador. There's a terrace with amazing jungle views and the breakfast they serve is probably one of the best I've eaten in Peru. We arrived before the scheduled check-in time, the staff were happy to oblige. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. We stayed in the family room, which has a delightful patio/balcony area with swinging chair. There are fruit trees on the property which you can eat from gorgeous pool area and the food at the restraint was tasty. I’d definitely stay there again. Plus the staff are super friendly and the owner took us for a tour of the gardens, explained the different fruits and speaks pretty good English. It’s about 15 mins out of town (Tarapoto) but well worth it!! There was no dining option onsite and no restaurants in the area so you would have to travel somewhere to eat. The room was very clean. My room was far enough off the street that it was also quiet. The hotel seemed a bit expensive for what you got but a bed and a shower was all I needed. Overall, it was a pleasant experience."
