It's grotty and run down. But not unhygienic. I would say it's one step up from a hostel and you get your own room. It is walking distance to the Museum of Islamic Art, which makes it accessible to other sights as well. There are many local eateries nearby and a mini-market for fruits, vegetables, and snacks. The staff was helpful in meeting my requests for toilet paper and such. The room was basic but perfectly functional. Large, firm bed, hot shower with bath tub and curtain, toilet, fridge. Overall very clean. The room itself was pretty big and so was the bathroom. Reception made me pay in cash though I had already pre-paid with Expedia, PLUS they wanted me to pay an even higher rate than I had already paid. They didn't speak much English and it was impossible to explain. I paid anyway and said I would sort it out later with Expedia. Then they recognized their error and asked me to come back down to reception to get my money. They didn't give me back all my money, whatever, but nearly all. While I was getting my money back, another guest started harassing me and his hands were all over me. Reception didn't say a word. Luckily a security guard intervened. I asked reception how much the shuttle bus was to the airport, and first she said 25, then she switched to 50, and then the phone rang and she proceeded on a very lengthy personal call. It was not in Arabic.
