Soccer, education and old British pubs provide an exceptional combination for a pleasant visit to the sleepy village of Falmer. Representing the modern world are the 21st-century soccer stadium and the campus of the University of Sussex, one of the most distinguished educational complexes in the U.K. Get a sense of the student life in this quaint and bucolic hamlet in the outskirts of Brighton. Join the chanting crowds at a soccer match in the American Express Community Stadium, which is home to Brighton & Hove Albion, a historic and prominent English soccer club. Commonly known as the Amex, the innovative 30,750-seat arena opened in 2011 to meet the growing demands and popularity of the team. Go to a game at night, when the futuristic stadium lights up the area. The Falmer Campus of the University of Brighton borders the southern side of the stadium. Stroll through the college and admire the Sports Pavilion, the Falmer Sports Centre and the Paddock Field Halls, among the many complexes here. Head north to the competing University of Sussex and relax among the students in its restaurant and café. The campus also has a great range of sports facilities as well as a student union and a shop.
