Bring your swimsuit when you visit Bern’s Freibad Marzili in the warmer months so you can do some sunbathing in this beautiful outdoor area. Located on the Aare River, this is a popular spot for Bernese families to socialize and relax. You’ll understand why once you visit the area.
This spotless treed park provides all you need for a day near the water. Dive or jump into one of five outdoor pools ranging in length from 30 feet (10 meters) to 160 feet (50 meters).
Choose the pool you want, including a section only for women. Let very young children enjoy the paddling pools. An even bigger attraction for good swimmers is the crystal clear river itself coming straight from the Alps. The current lets you drift along on a lazy day.
Walk a little farther upstream to the Eichholz campgrounds and let the water’s current slowly carry your raft or tube back to the park. Alternatively swim along the shore in the area manned by lifeguards.
Once back on land, rent a deckchair and settle in for a sunbathing session by the pool or try the relaxation room and succumb to the Zen atmosphere.
When it’s time for a snack or refreshment, the park has a kiosk, ice cream parlor, snack bar and restaurant.
As you stretch out under a leafy tree, gaze upon the beautifully designed Bundeshaus, Switzerland’s seat of government, at one end of the park.
Play beach volleyball, table tennis, foosball or outdoor billiards in the games area. Children can splash in the pools while using the provided water toys. Playgrounds are fully equipped and outdoor exercise machines are available for a cardio workout.
As the day starts to end, return to the changing cubicles to retrieve your items from your locker.
