We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Bunga Raya Island Resort. The island is truly beautiful — surrounded by lush nature, crystal-clear water and stunning views. It feels like a peaceful little paradise, perfect for relaxing and escaping from the busy world. The villas are beautiful and spacious, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service throughout our stay was excellent. We especially loved the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful beach and the opportunity to enjoy nature all around us. Thank you to the whole Bunga Raya team for making our stay so special. We left with beautiful memories and would definitely love to come back one day!

Hotel was beautifully appointed, it is a little tired in some areas but it battles with high temperatures and blistering sun so to be expected, you could see they were maintaining it well and continually improving it. Rooms were large and well appointed. Air con was effective if a little loud, might be worth investing in some newer machines but like I said they were effective together with the room ceiling fans. Restaurants were excellent, great offering and all staff were so polite and very helpful. Resort does suffer from sandflies, which they do well to manage but they are evident in that geographical area.

Absolutely lovely resort - the resort is beautiful and feels like paradise. The staff are all amazing, great service everywhere. The restaurants are reasonably priced (a bit more expensive than the mainland but seems reasonable given the location) and all the meals we had were really nice - we stayed for a week and had tried most dishes by the end , there isn’t a huge variety and only a few Malaysian options. Our room was up a steep hill but you can ask for a ride up on the buggy if you don’t fancy the walk. Everything does close up quite early (last order for a drink 10pm) but can see why as we were always the only people still around at this time - everyone seems to disappear about 8:30 so it can feel a bit of a weird atmosphere if you’re an evening person. There are lots of biting insects around so do take some decent insect repellent as the oil the resort provides didn’t seem effective at all. They light insight repellent coils outside each villa in the evening - it would be good if the resort could add these at the bar area at the Pantai restaurant too. A few things. The rooms just aren’t insect proof at all - eg there’s gaps in the door so we got bitten a lot. Each day we had to brush ants off our bed. When we first arrived there was a large number of ants (dead and alive) on the bed. We stayed for a week and the bedding wasn’t changed at all during this time, which was surprising especially as I had a couple insect bites which left a bit of blood on the bedding.

Has a lot of potential, but needs re-investment to bring back up to 4/5 star standards. Rubbish is a serious issue on the beach & the resort / hotel area needs a deep clean. Staff are lovely.

A wonderful resort for our honeymoon, and one we’d highly recommend particularly the plunge pool villa that overlooks and has private access to the beach. The jetty was a particular highlight — very well lit, and every night we would walk there looking at the marine life; it was like having our own private aquarium. Some caveats. Don’t expect parties, activities and shows — this is a great resort to unwind and recharge, particularly if you love nature (exactly what we needed for the tail end of a mammoth 3 weeks). The jungle hikes and snorkelling trips are definitely worth doing; the snorkelling around the resort is good but you do have to swim out for the best coral. We considered private boats to KK but didn’t feel the need when you can party with monkeys, monitors, hornbills and wild boar at your doorstep. There are only 2 restaurants on site which can feel a bit limiting, but the food is varied and excellent so we didn’t mind. The staff were warm and attentive throughout without ever being intrusive — a tough balance to strike. And the wine list from their amazing cellar is simply one of the best we’ve ever seen — serious depth in Australian wines alongside some genuine heavy hitters: First Growths, Grange, Sassicaia. Exceptional.

今まで世界中のホテルに泊まりましたが、サービスは良くありませんでした。 ホテルからの情報がいっさい来ないため、自ら島に行くための船の時間や金額を問い合わせしないといけません。 工事をしていたため、船の乗り場も分かりづらく、暑い中でだいぶ迷いました。乗り場でホテルのチェックインを行いましたが、説明は無し。とりあえずサインを書かせられます。 早くにホテルに着きましたが、ウェルカムドリンクを受け取っただけで、部屋に入れる時間や今後の話については全くされませんでした。 自然の中にホテルがあるため、落ち葉や波打ち際にゴミなどが溜まってしまうことは理解出来ます。しかしながら、掃除をするという概念がありません。朝に一往復牛を連れて大きなゴミを集めるだけ。プールは風の流れで端に溜まった枝や葉を3-4時間に1度掬うだけ。プールの底に溜まった枝や葉、プールサイドの机や椅子に溜まる花や葉っぱはそのままです。スタッフはさまざまな場所に座っているだけでした。 ご飯は島の2つのレストランで食べるのみ。朝食は全員無料。少しのバイキングと、メインを10種類から選ぶスタイルです。 部屋は個々で独立しており、カートで基本移動します。 小さなジムがあります。 ガラス製のシャンプーが割れてしまい清掃を依頼しましたが、チェックアウト時に1万円支払いさせられました。わざとではなかったことを主張しましたが、HP上の一覧表を見せられ、部屋のテレビやグラスはもちろん、カヤック等破損させた時の金額が提示されていました。 わざとではないにも関わらず、高額な金額を請求されるので、二度と行くことはないと思います。

We had a wonderful time here. We stayed for 3 nights in a superior chalet. As it was a basic chalet it was actually the best chalet we have stayed in, spatious, 2 air con units which kept us lovely and cool. Big bathroom and rain shower. The bed was huge and really comfortable. They also provide free insect repellent in the rooms and by the pool which we didn't find anywhere else on our trip. Wifi in the room and TV. There are steps up to our chalet which we found okay but people with mobility issues could just get the complimentary electric buggy to and from the rooms. The staff here are magnificent, so kind and caring and very attentive. We didn't opt for the all inclusive option as we don't drink so it wouldn't have been beneficial for us. Food was great, especially the burger on the lunch menu and we loved the refresher drinks menu. Happy hour is 4pm-7pm. We snorkelled everyday and used the kayaks also. All watersports are free to use which is the reason we chose this resort over gaya island resort and we thought the beach was nicer also. We saw some great fish around the Jetty, sting rays and a black tip shark. No jellyfish were seen which was great. We didn't use the gym but we went in to get the pickleball equipment and it was good, all the equipment you'd need, shower etc... We played pickleball in the rain and it was fabulous. Overall the staff here make the experience one of a kind. We would happily return and already miss being there!

The whole resort was simply dreamy. The 2 km-long beach is the most beautiful we’ve seen in Borneo so far, with crystal-clear water and an abundance of marine life — including baby reef sharks and even a turtle. It’s the perfect place to unwind after trekking through Borneo’s jungle. Both restaurants on the property are excellent, offering a wide variety of seafood. The sambal seabass is especially worth recommending. The staff were consistently warm and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions we had. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as complimentary water bottles and a lovely batik sarong. The villa itself was very spacious, with a large and extremely comfortable bed. Although we didn’t have a direct sea view, we could still hear the soothing sound of the ocean. Our only point of concern relates to the water buffaloes. We understand that they help with beach cleaning, and we did see them walking along the shore, even with a young calf. However, we also noticed that they were kept overnight on the far left side of the beach, tethered by a rope attached to their noses, which was quite distressing to witness. Aside from this, everything about our stay was truly exceptional.

An amazing stay at a lovely resort in the rainforest, yet not too far away from KK. The staff are terrific and go out of their way to make you feel welcome at the resort. Thankfully we arrived the week after bad weather, so there was cleanup/fixing in progress, which is understandable. After seeing some of the other report options near KK, we definitely were lucky to get seclusion/privacy and nature in abundance. To mention some memorable staff (and other were also friendly/helpful but I can not recall their names, sorry!): Ellyrika, Cera, Eduardo, and Isaac (jungle guide with excellent English). Laurant, the French resort manager, does an amazing job at welcoming you, checking in regularly to make sure there is nothing you need and leaving personal notes/gifts to make the stay memorable. A big thank you to all at Bungaraya.

The property is beautiful surrounded by a lush forest which brings around wildlife (including some monkeys that can be a bit invasive). The tram at Bunga Raya was really a pleasure, with smiles and warm hospitality. We do have to warn of the sand flies, which left my husband with over 60 bites on his back even after applying repellent (I on the other hand was never bothered much, as with other guests it was a hit or miss). Dinners were all to be served when we first arrived, but by the third day speed of service increased greatly. We enjoyed the snorkeling day trip offered with a supplemental charge- it was probably one of the highlights from our stay at the resort. The spa is truly a hidden gem, my husband and I went twice because we enjoyed our services so much - with a special shoutout to Tina and her colleagues for such warmth and hospitality! I would definitely recommend Bunga Raya for its location, the laid back atmosphere, the beautiful grounds, great food and its kind staff. Just beware of the sand flies if you’re a beach person (and if insects or mosquitos tend to bite you) !
