Visit Glendhu Bay, a scenic shoreline providing exceptional views of Lake Wanaka. Rugged rock formations border the beach, which is backed by leafy hills containing a labyrinth of sloped nature trails. Stroll along the shoreline of Rotary Park and feel the white sand and pebbles beneath your feet.
Listen to the rustle of tall trees swaying in the breeze at the back of the beach, as you work on your tan in the summer. Cool off by splashing in the lake’s shallow and clear water or swimming with your family.
Large rocky mountains and headlands across the bay offer unforgettable vistas. Spot the white caps of these rock formations when they’re covered in snow for much of the year. Appreciate the utter serenity in this quiet beach area and take a kayak or paddleboard out on the lake.
Check in with a camper van or pitch a tent in the adjacent Glendhu Bay Motor Camp. Sleep beneath the stars in this tranquil lakeside haven. Try to identify the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere.
Head east along the shore until you reach the Glendhu Bay Lookout and admire the various mountains reflected in the lake’s shimmering surface. Watch the poplar trees draping the hills turn golden in fall.
Attend a wedding or other private function at the Glendhu Station, an impressive observation deck above Rotary Park. Check out neighboring Parkins Bay and hike north along the Lake Access Trail to get to the impressive Matukituki River Bridge.
Glendhu Bay is in the southwestern corner of Lake Wanaka, in the southwestern part of New Zealand’s South Island. It stands between the areas of Albert Town and Cattle Flat. While you’re in this part of the country, travel to nearby attractions such as the island of Mou Tapu, #ThatWanakaTree and the Puzzling World amusement center.
