I would probably stay on an island and do day trips to less traveled areas... there is just too many people at the places they take you. however, it's pretty fun to be on a boat, so if you do do a cruise one night was more than enough for me. The boat was clean, the staff was awesome, and the good was good (nothing mind blowing, but definetely good), the beds and room were quite comfortable as well. We got a room with a balcony.
