The room spacious and clean. We were in room 4 and the only downside, for me, having a sensitive sense of smell was being woken in the comfy bed by the strong smell of bleach, it was even worse in the breakfast area. It did not bother my husband at all. If I stayed again, I would ask for a room higher up, or further away from the bar area and not have the breakfast, lovely as it was, I would eat elsewhere. There must be cleaning products that do not smell so unpleasant. Such a shame. Liked the fact that the breakfast choices went beyond a Yorkshire breakfast. English muffin with cream cheese and smoked salmon, baked egg… Didn’t eat dinner as we felt the menu was a little underwhelming. If you are a light sleeper you may not like this room as it's on a small road that lorries use through the night. The staff were all lovely and helpful and allowed us to stay beyond check out when one of us fell ill which inconvenienced them but they were v nice about it. We have been coming to Hawes for years and this is by far the best pub.
