Reserved a room online for a colleague, using my credit card. I got a confirmation email and it shows on my credit card statement (though in pending, as it always does for a day or so).
When my colleague and his family arrived at the hotel, they said they needed to run my CC and then it was denied. It was denied because it was already run for that amount! I got on the phone with the front desk person and got nowhere. They claimed they couldn't cancel my reservation since it was never reserved. I told them I had confirmation it was reserved. She finally said she'd have the manager call me, taking my name and number. And, of course, no one ever called me.
My colleague had to end up paying for the room himself and it is still showing on my credit card. So, double payment for the room. I finally just disputed the charge through my cc company. I should not have to do that.
I had proof that the room was paid for, but that didn't matter to the front desk person - they forced us to pay for it again.
