Wellness Hotel Apollo – Lifeclass Hotels & Spa, Portorož
8/10 Good
"Great hotel and the half-board is very much worth it. Good food and good variety. A lot of things have an extra cost that could be included (ex. Towels at the pools or you can get water from a machine at breakfast but you are then charged at dinner). The location is fantastic and the beach is great."
"Lovely corner room with balcony overlooking sea and town.
Bathroom wasn’t great. Very high bathtub so not for anyone small or with any mobility problems. Shower on wall which soaked bathroom because of its position.
The breakfast was amazing with so much choice but an outdoor terrace would have been nice.
Loads of sunbeds available. We were there during a heatwave and pool was uncomfortably hot, much nice in the sea"
"We had the big apartment with the mirror balcony. The room was a nice size however the AC struggled to keep the room cool. Likely due to the windows and mirrored balcony that baked in the sunlight all day. We did enjoy the balcony during a wonderful lightening storm so that was fun. The staff was super helpful in trying to get the AC to work and it did get to a point of tolerable but it meant keeping the drapes closed at all times defeating the purpose of the room with the views."
"Excelent location for couples, everything is decorated with style, you feel like an aristocrat. Staff is amazing and the access to the see is very convenient. The best is having the complementary breakfast on the terrace. Parking available at the hotel for €35/day, very convenient considering the prices in Opatija. Overall a very pleasant experience! Thank you Kvarner staff for everything."
"Room was comfortable, and amenities are great - gym, sauna, steam room, rest room, indoor jacuzzi and pool. Outdoor pool, weird location to hotel, and kind of boring, no music. That was the only downfall."
"Property was in an excellent location for getting to the sea, to the park and to places to eat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. We would recommend staying here."
"It’s a fabulous location and the facilities are very good quality and well kept from cleanliness standpoint too. The 12km path along seaside is great for those that are fitness conscious and it also provides several more small beach access points and park benches. Great value!
Breakfast option is convenient and adequate. Lobby bar and patio were fabulous, especially with the seaside view and breeze in the evening. À la carte dinner meals were convenient and adequate. There are other restaurant options within 5 to 10 minutes walk and small grocery store for essentials.
Service at reception and lobby bar and seaside restaurant were very good.
The deck/seaside swimming area with chairs and canopies are worth the extra expense. All the prices were reasonable.
We did not access the indoor pool during our stay. Massage services were very good too.
Eco friendly incentive (no room cleaning) could be a bit more precise…need to pay lobby bar charges with credit card daily to receive 15% discount (not applied at checkout).
The area is very walkable with plenty of ‘tourist shops’. The overall vibe including surrounding architecture is special and we did not feel overcrowded in early July.
We will be back…easy access from Zagreb, Trieste and or Ljubljana too."
"We had a great week at this hotel including my birthday! They made sure you have everythinf you need. The Suite 506 is big enough for a family of 4 and beautiful view of the bay. Room was cleaned every day and enough and fresh towels were brought. Room service is efficient and on time. They do awesome massages (Svitlana) and other face cares (bravo to the manager Melita). Andrea from reception speaks great english and was so helpful. Same goes for kitchen staff. The breakfast buffet delicious. Dinner is also good, no too many choices but the ones there, are tasty. You have public parking around or the hotel garage for 17€/day. Take your masks and snorkel in the morning, the hotel has a nice spot and you'll see fishes, seastars and maybe a crab :-) We were there end of june, not too crowder and that changes a lot your experience. We love croatia, they really know how to welcome tourists. Old city of Lovran is beautiful, also the Lungomare Opatija is a long path by the sea to walk during evenings. If you wanna eat outside, go to Riviera restaurant, amazing fish and great staff!!"
The best areas to stay in Jelovice are the central village area for convenience and accessibility, and the scattered villas and farm stays in the surrounding countryside for a more secluded experience.
The central village of Jelovice is a good option for travelers who prefer to be close to local amenities and community life. Here, you'll find a few small shops and traditional taverns within walking distance. It's a convenient base for exploring the region, as main roads are easily accessible from this point.
For couples or families seeking privacy and spacious rooms, the villas and renovated farmhouses peppered throughout the Jelovice countryside are an excellent choice. These properties often feature private pools, expansive gardens, and offer a tranquil setting with views of the Istrian landscape.
When is the best time to go to Jelovice?
The best time to visit Jelovice is during the shoulder seasons of May-June and September-October, when the weather is pleasant, and the region is less crowded.
For those who enjoy outdoor activities and exploring the Istrian countryside, these months offer ideal conditions. The temperatures are comfortable for hiking, cycling, and sightseeing without the intense heat of mid-summer. You'll find the local vineyards and olive groves particularly appealing during these times, superb for couples looking for a relaxed and scenic getaway.
If you're seeking a quieter experience, particularly solo travelers, late September and early October are excellent. The summer crowds have dissipated, and you can enjoy the local cuisine, cultural sites, and natural beauty at a more leisurely pace. Many local events and festivals celebrating the harvest also occur during this period, offering a glimpse into local traditions.
While July and August offer the warmest weather for those who prioritize swimming and sunbathing, the region can be quite busy and prices for accommodations may be higher.
