It was awfully packed over the full moon weekend (would not recommend visiting during this period)! This pavilion-like structure at the front Paththirippuwa, or Octagon. It is a symbol of identity in Kandyan Architecture. In the olden days, the king would stand there to address his citizens who were gathered in front of him. The golden roof behind stands over the Buddha tooth relic that this temple is famous for. Met at Reception by the friendly Reception staff who made the check-in process really easy. Room was as exactly as the photos portrayed. Spotlessly clean bedroom and bathroom. Location was perfect as it was close enough to the Lake but quiet. Perfect for a stay in Kandy.

Very classy, well furnished, clean hotel with superlative views. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were extremelly attentive, friendly and accomodating. This was easily the best hotel i stayed in within the cultural center of SL. If i returned to Kandy i would stay here again, hands down? Superb value as well, highly recommended

Cassendra is a beautiful property that feels more like a house than a hotel. It is clean and well managed. Cassendra had the best breakfast of any hotel we've stayed at in Sri Lanka.

We had a fantastic stay at Cassendra Hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. The room was perfectly clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it a perfect place to relax after a long day. A special mention to Dilrukshi, who truly made our stay feel like home. Her warm hospitality and genuine care made such a difference she went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Thanks to the friendly service and peaceful atmosphere.I would definitely recommend Cassendra Hotel to anyone looking for a cozy and well-managed place to stay. I’ll happily return on my next visit to Kandy.

Comfortable and affordable room with a great view

Cassendra staff eere welcoming and helpful - even before I arrived. They helped me find affordable transport for a day trip and when needed were able to serve my dinner extra quickly. Wifi was touch and go but ultimately held for a few video calls. The hotel is a bit old but rooms are spacious and clean with great bathrooms. The location is know to tuktuk drivers and the mountain offers amazing views. Its also very close to the best Kandyan dancers (5 min walk) and a view point!

The room was spacious with large, comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had brought some fruit with us, and the staff kindly washed, cut, and even brought it to our room — a really thoughtful touch that we appreciated. When we booked the hotel, we didn’t know there was ongoing renovation work in the restaurant — it wasn’t a huge drawback, but the lighting in the evenings was a bit unpleasant. The hotel is also located very close to the viewpoint and the lake, which was a great bonus.

The hotel and staff were truly first class! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. Our room was spacious and beautifully designed, featuring stunning high ceilings and a fantastic balcony with a breathtaking view. Although our stay was short, we wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy more of the hotel's charm and hospitality. The location was also perfect—peaceful yet conveniently close to town, making it easy to explore the local sights, restaurants, and beaches. A wonderful experience overall, and we can’t wait to return!

Hotel Cassendra was a real find. The staff were so lovely and really couldn't do enough to make my stay more pleasant. No question or request was too great or small for them. It is up a steep hill so.wpuld make quite a hike from Kandy but its maybe 300 rupees in a tuk tuk to get up. Very easy to walk down into Kandy however, and it also passes the viewpoint. When you get to the Royal park, there is a lane to the right of it and that ia a handy shortcut into town. It's honesly only a 10min walk. Rooms were lovely, really smart. Breakfast a little limited but it did vary each day and there was something for everyone. Overall it was just great value for money and nice to be set back a little bit off the main drag in Kandy.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The views overlooking Kandy were stunning and made every moment feel special. The breakfast was fresh, generous, and a great start to each day. Its close location to the train station was incredibly convenient. A great place to stay with excellent value and comfort.

The room was adequate; however, there was no hot water, and the bathroom had mold. In other rooms next to ours it was boiling hot. Understanding the meal service was quite challenging, as it took 90 minutes to receive dinner. Additionally, the hotel is not just a 3-minute walk from the lake and other attractions as advertised. I will not take guests there again.

Staff are absolutely spot on, on the ball, very friendly. The hotel is very clean, rooms have amazing views over the valley. The rooms here were some of my nices on my trip to Sri Lanka. Naughty Monkeys pay a visit occasionally too! Its little put of town but going downhill, ypu can be in the centre of Kandy by walking in 10 mins. Coming back.... get a Tuk tuk!
