"The bathroom had a pretty funky smell that never went away, and it seemed that their answer was to put a tiny bag of potpourri next to the toilet, but it could have used a more thorough cleaning. Otherwise, a very nice and helpful staff, great free shuttle for local hikes, and decent breakfast and dinner. Quiet and lovely spot by the river where many people were enjoying the water."

"For those who are looking to luxuriate in the onsens of the Kii península… This is a place not to be missed. The cave onsens, especially, were both gorgeous and healing… The other ones perhaps a bit rundown, but still quite a treat. The staff were great (and multi-lingual) and my room was squeaky clean. "We had an amazing time at this hotel. We would return for sure. The outdoor onsen is beautiful and even thought there were other guests in the hotel, we were the only one using them, so it was quite relaxing. The staff members were so welcoming and friendly, the food was just impeccable. At breakfast time until we left, there was a pianist playing the piano. He was fabulous. We loved everything!! "

"The hotel is at an excellent location although the decor is a bit dated. The room is big with a balcony overlooking the famous Shirahama beach. The hotel staff were the most helpful. The lady staff was in the phone with various parties to help us sort out our punctured tire on the day we checked out. Sorry I didn’t get her name but she was the only female staff there on the morning of 3 Nov 2023. Thank you so much!"

"It is clean and sufficient. Downside is that it is a bit dated, lack out power outlets to charge all the electronic devices. The host, Ken is very friendly and gave me a excellent intro of the area. I only stayed one night before hiking the Kumano Kodo. It is close to the train/bus station so that is a plus."

"It is a hotel more traditional than I expected. No regular chairs in the room, we sat on cushions on the floor and this took some getting used to. The water view is pretty and the bento breakfast and dinner were novel and interesting. Also traditional clothing is provided to all guests to wear to meals and move about the hotel property. Shoes off to enter restaurants. Interesting experience. Good base to visit some of the Kumano Kodo Taishas in Hongu, Shingu and Naichi."

"Very new, clean and thoughtfully designed hotel literally a stone throw away from the local Hashiguiiwa Rocks. Water view rooms have an amazing view of the rocks from above, which alone is worth the stay. Comfortable large long bed and pillows you would expect at an international hotel chain. Complementary tea, coffee and drinks in the lobby. No dining outlets but plenty of dining options nearby with recommendations offered by the property. I would definitely stay here again if I were to visit Kushimoto again. "
