Chopok, in the Low Tatras Mountains. Chopok is at 2,024 m (6,640 ft) and is the 3rd highest peak of the Low Tatra Range. The views were truly breathtaking from there! Including the meteorological observatory tower covered in snow. But, most of my time in Slovakia was in the High Tatras. The mountains there are even bigger and more epic. I was based in the small city of Poprad and took trips every day. I was in Slovakia in September 2015, too. But this was my 1st time in winter! And with a good camera ;). I also had a wonderful time in Budapest, as well! My very 1st time there. But, while I spent most of my time in the High Tatras I loved being in the Low Tatras! The mountains were absolutely magnificent! And I came to Chopok at a perfect time of day :). Photos truly do not do this hotel justice. While a few cosmetic elements show their age, the important details—comfort and atmosphere—are outstanding. The beds are exceptionally comfortable with plush down pillows, high-quality down comforters, and crisp cotton bedding. Bathrooms are spacious and modern with excellent amenities. My room even had a lovely terrace overlooking the street, and despite being close to everything in town, nights were remarkably quiet. The breakfast buffet was the best I experienced during my two weeks in Poland—abundant, fresh, and beautifully presented. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was equally impressive; the duck was superb, the fish perfectly prepared, and the service excellent. The staff were gracious and accommodating throughout our stay, from adding a late-arriving companion to our reservation to holding our luggage after checkout. The staff were lovely, especially the reception team, who were very welcoming. The same level of friendliness wasn’t always reflected by the housekeeping team, but overall the service was still good. Breakfast was a real highlight — very enjoyable — and the water machines on each floor offering unlimited sparkling, cold, or room-temperature water were a great touch. One thing to note is that the spa and facilities close at 12 each day, which we weren’t aware of in advance, and they also fully close by 9pm in the evening. Additionally, as there were quite a few families with children staying, areas like the gym and spa/swimming facilities could feel a bit busier at times. This may be worth considering if you’re looking for a quieter, more adult-focused environment. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and really enjoyed the view of Giewont from our room.
