Admire the exceptional façade of 1 The Avenue, with its blend of steel and glass mirrors. Marvel at the modern form of the Manchester Civil Justice Centre, a futuristic behemoth that was built in 2007.

For a look back at the area’s roots, head to the People’s History Museum. It traces the history of democracy in Britain, with exhibits on social justice and radical movements. Relax on the charming riverside terrace of its Left Bank café. Nearby, study the neo-Gothic Victorian architecture of The John Rylands Library.
