Beautiful hotel in the rain forest by the beach

Posted Nov 13, 2017
Pros: The room was very clean and modern, staff was very friendly, the scenery was beautiful. Felt like you were lost in the rain forest, but comfortable.
Cons: The suite where we stayed, S10, was on the lower level and you could hear lots of noise coming from other rooms that woke us up multiple times.
Location: It's a steep walk to the beach. About 1km uphill into town for supermarket and restaurants (better to just drive). Manuel Antonio National Park.
We had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. It is set in the rain forest and has a steep hike down to the beach. They provide a drive most of the way down and back up via a golf cart, but you have to coordinate with the cart driver for the time you want to leave the beach. The facilities are modern and the Ocean Club room we stayed in was nice. The room has on the lower level of the Ocean Club, though, and we could hear doors closing, bathroom sliding doors moving, and other loud noises from the rooms around us that woke us up during the night. It was also a very steep, slippery walk downhill to the hill; not particularly safe. There was also construction going on around the hotel grounds that did not allow for sleeping in late, but those renovations could be happening anywhere you stay. The restaurant was quite nice, but pricey. The included breakfasts were good. The private access beach was nice. The hotel staff was extremely courteous. I would definitely recommend this hotel, but would make sure I'm not on the lower level of the Ocean Club again.

Personal Paradise!

Posted Sep 12, 2017
Pros: There are no words for how luxurious this place is. The people who work here made this experience unique and personalized!
Cons: I would build out the beach or make it easier to get to the beach with a zipline or something.
Location: The pools are amazing and you can hear music underwater. The private beach is not as nice as the other beaches at Manuel Antonio!
I was so worried about coming to Costa Rica during the rainy season because I didn't think it would be romantic, but this resort bombards you with romance. We had a wonderful drive from San Jose to Quepos and this resort is hidden on the side of a jungle mountainside. We arrived and they were waiting for us with a fruity drink and Alberto made us feel so welcome. We were celebrating our 10th anniversary and he made us feel so special with a personal note in our room. This room was huge and luxurious and even if it rained all day every day we would be totally content hanging out on the comfortable couch and bed. The curtains have these auto close functions and there are so many unique little attentions to detail that made the room so comfortable. I loved how we could go to any of the 2 pools and have a friendly smile behind the bar waiting to puree a drink or serve us some delicious food. I was worried because some of the reviews made it seem like the food wasn't worth its value, but everything we ate was huge in proportion and delicious. I highly recommend the ceviche and the blended iced coffee (preferably served by Teejay or Luis) by the hot tub while you enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle. There was a sloth or two always outside our window and the Howler monkeys were always excited to greet us every morning. There is no need to go on an expensive nature hike when you can just walk through the property (or get a ride from Jorge on the golf cart).

Beautiful hotel

We were there for a couple nights of our honeymoon in August and it was a beautiful resort. The room was comfortable and had a beautiful view off of the balcony. We would definitely stay there again!

I booked deluxe room suppose to have kitchen, well the desk person said guess what you have been upgraded-it did not gave a kitchen and very small-not an upgrade-they changed the room next day day but it took the morning to change rooms we lost that time we had plans-they made it right-the hotel is beautiful- lots of stairs-expensive food and drink-long trek to rocky beach, you have to wait to get picked up-not a great system-water pressure really bad for shower-room leaked water when it rained great views and love the swings by the pool

Great hotel but very noisy

Posted Jul 15, 2017
This hotel was awesome, in a great location, and with nice facilities- especially the infinity pools. It's a pity that they were doing renovations during our stay so we couldn't really enjoy the view from our balcony as the workers were right there and they woke us up early each morning.

Very Private and great location

Posted Jul 11, 2017 on Orbitz
Pros: Privacy, Rooms, Pools
Cons: The restaurant had limited selection. But the food was very good.
Location: This hotel is very private location with within a couple minutes of all the great restaurants and beaches of Manual Antonio.
This hotel is on the high end of hotels in the Quepos, Manuel Antonio area. It is very small and private. The infinity pools are incredible with swings around the pool. The hotel overlooks the jungle and ocean below. There are many monkeys that came to visit us right outside of our deck. The staff worked very hard and were friendly. The books last minute tours for us and the room service was great.

Lovely beach, very helpful staff

Posted Jul 11, 2017
Pros: Very nice beach. Helpful staff. Beautiful pool. Clean, modern rooms.
Cons: Finish the construction. A more subtle decor would be classier. Food could be nicer or cheaper.
This is an updated review. Short version: Hotel under construction. Staff offered a partial refund. Expedia dropped the ball for months. The hotel staff very diligently followed up and got me my refund! Slightly longer: On my visit much of the hotel near our room was under construction, which means we awoke to the sounds of hammers and saws and the occasional construction vehicle driving right next to our balcony. The staff was very apologetic and offered a refund of the last half of our stay. I waited in the hotel office while Expedia contacted the hotel to request confirmation of the refund. There were several phone calls and a lot of waiting, but I believed that everything was taken care of. However months later there was still no refund. I contacted Expedia again and they claimed to have no record of the requested refund, but they tried to contact the hotel. Expedia support said that they could not get approval from the hotel. I complained and they tried again. When I finally wrote a negative hotel review on Expedia the hotel management contacted me and confirmed that they had indeed attempted to refund my money, and they would follow up with Expedia. Apparently Expedia was unable to contact them, but must not have tried very hard. They worked things out and I got my money back. The lesson: Makanda staff were great, but Expedia is a big corporation so make sure you take notes and follow-up.
