The room was clean and the AC worked. it was the perfect spot for what we needed. we just had a one-night stay because we were stranded. It does not have a mini fridge but that was not a deal breaker

Driving from NY to Chiapas, we usually stay overnight in Brownsville and tackle the border in the morning. This time we crossed in late afternoon and stayed at HI Matamoros. It was a great decision. For maybe 40 or 50 dollars less than a mediocre Texas hotel, we had a nice, comfortable, quiet room. We had supper at the restaurant and, while not gourmet, was very good.

This place is worth every penny (because that's literally what you're paying - penny's on the dollar). However, you get what you pay for.
The staff is very astute and forthcoming, the parking is convenient and directly in front of the room, and the rooms are, in fact, clean.
However, the rooms are very noisy - you hear literally every sound on the property, everything is well beyond its prime (and is showing it) and you don't feel like it's clean (but it is).
Bottom line: it's clean, cheap and...
