Entomologists delight - Share your holiday with many species of insects!
When we booked the property, our priority was firstly a pool so that our six year old daughter could further her swimming progress. Secondly we wanted to be central so we could visit Naxos, Mt Etna and Palermo. The property is central but sadly upon arrival, we were greeted to the sight of the very friendly female caretaker washing the dirty terrace and a very grumpy male caretaker fishing insects out of the pool which was filthy.
Further the supposed kitchenette with a four burner cooker is actually one small shelf with a dirty two burner hob. The furniture is basic but this was to be expected as it is agro tourism. We understand that there would be some insects and mosquitoes but in that case why no mosquito coils or nets?
The owner was not around to greet us even though we had advised out time of arrival meaning we had to speak to him on the phone to let him know that the condition of the property was unacceptable. I have sent to Home and Away photos showing the insects and whilst we were standing round the pool discussing what to do, my daughter was bitten several times to the point of tears.
We immediately decided to find another place to stay which resulted in significant additional expenditure we had a good holiday. After complaints to Home and Away the owner refunded a token sum of just over one third of the original cost. He then claimed to be out of pocket, quite how I do not know but certainly not as much as me. Hence he made money for nothing whilst I had to calm down a tearful and mosquito bitten six year old and race around to find somewhere else to stay.
I see that many reviews are positive and clearly we suffered from the owners negligence in failing to prepare the property.
In summary - avoid
