We booked a standard room but noticed that it wasn't very busy upon arrival. We asked if they would be able to upgrade our room. They upgraded us to the ocean view penthouse suite, free of charge! Absolutely beautiful room, and free breakfast at the restaurant next door.

Don't Do It. Find Another Place.

The reviews here are not wrong; this place is a dump. I don't know what 1970s mold and mildew smell they have going on in here but you'd think they would at least keep the windows open to air it out. It is a seriously smelly place. Other than the smell and the run down and cheap nature of literally everything in this place, at least the staff wasn't as bad as all the reviews claim. They were almost pleasant and they were at least helpful. I stayed in the largest and nicest room they have. It was clean, more or less, and just run down, old, and cheap. I think the TV might have been a computer monitor hooked up to a satellite feed. One lamp didn't even have a switch to turn it on. The towels looked threadbare. I had to find toilet paper and then there was no roller to install it on. The spider in the bath/shower told me no on had used it or cleaned it for awhile.

Bad experience

Pros: Not much
Cons: knock it down and rebuild. or at least severe remodel
Location: restaurants were close by
Look at all pics before booking. Maybe only 2 rooms actually look good. When we opened the door to our room and the musky smell was strong. This was a last minute trip on July 4th, all hotels booked. Opened all windows to air out. Went next door to mini mart & bought a spray can Fabreeze and sprayed the carpet, chairs & curtains. Left the windows open & went for a walk. It took a while even after we came back for it to be tolerable. Jacuzzi tab tagged out of order. Wallpaper stapled. Individual entry ways blocked for your safety. Deck rail replaced with cheap particle board. Old 2 x 4's nailed to it as a brace. The brace had large nails hammered as flat as they could. The place is old & the whole thing needs remodeling. As if the looks were bad enough, the continental breakfast u expected turns out to be your "choice" of wheat or rye toast, or cereal packet, or bagel but they were out of bagels. Tiny coffee. But if you didn't want that you could order breakfast from their regular menu! This place is a rip off. Don't waste your money.

Absolutely worst hotel experience.

Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Everything.
Location: It is right next to the freeway and a gas station.
The staff is rude and unpleasant. You feel like you're bothering them & they're doing you a favor by letting you stay there. The breakfast is non-existence at a bakery next door that is just coffee/tea or a bagel between 7-9am no exceptions. The room is old with torn upholstery funiture. Dish cable in your room is questionable whether it is really legal since every 30 to 45 mins a warning message flashes to interrupt the problem. Even if you're desparate book in nearby not stay here.

Pros: the bed was very comfortable
Cons: Bathroom
Location: a gas station and convenience store next door, galleries, coffee shop and restaurant
I booked this hotel on line, looked very quant and had a sea side view which I wanted. The room was very spacious and clean but in need of some major renos in the bathroom! In a broucher, handed to me upon check in we were told we could not use the whirlpool tub in our room or face a $500 fine! Ok not what you want to hear when your paying but the other bathroom areas needed updating also! Breakfast was next door at a little coffee shop.

Pros: Staff friendly and helpful. The inn is in a good location and the price is reasonable.
Cons: Rooms need to be upgraded and bathroom definitely needs improvement.
Location: Very much enjoyed going to the beach at Half Moon Bay (about 7 miles away) and walking on the cliffs.
Photos and descriptions of hotel accommodations are extremely inaccurate. Ocean view is limited and traffic could be heard all night. Bathroom appeared to have water damage; fixtures were old and tub/shower tile appeared to have mildew. Wall paper is peeling and carpet extremely worn. Jacuzzis cannot be used. Outside stairs are dangerous and falling apart; the hotel does have a warning notice that stairs cannot be used. Had we not been told there was no refund we would have sought other accommodations. While the price is good, people should be informed of the reality of conditions and photos should reflect condition of the inn. Patrons should be better informed regarding conditions of lodgings. We did not see other rooms; perhaps they are better.

A great value for people looking for a get-away on a budget! We had a wonderful time at this cute little place in Montara. The room included a breakfast at the cute breakfast spot next door. We had an amazing dinner at La Costanero nearby and watched the sunset at The Ritz in Half Moon Bay.
