I booked my stay at this hotel through Expedia at the last minute because I had to cover a business meeting. within 5 minutes of reserving the room, I learned that the meeting had been cancelled. At the time I made the reservation, I was aware that Expedia's cancellation policy was to leave it to the hotel's discretion and that this particular hotel did not allow cancellations, but I thought it was at least worth a shot. I immediately called the hotel and asked about the possibility of getting a refund. I was rudely informed that the hotel normally would cancel a room but they would not do so for me because I used Expedia. I was then told that this was my own punishment for using a third-party rather than booking directly through the hotel. To make matters worse, the hotel asked for my name so that they could book my room for another guest. Not only would they not refund my money that I had paid literally 5 minutes before, they were going to profit off of my loss by double-booking.
I understand policies. If I was simply told, "I understand your circumstances, but we can't make exceptions from our policies," I would have been content. The way I was spoken to and the audacity to open my room up to re-book, just rubbed me the wrong way.
