1926 B&o Caboose Centrally Located Within The Hocking Hills

If unique is what your looking for bring the family and stay in our 1926 B&O Caboose at Fiddlestix Village. When cabooses became obsolete several decades ago many of them became treasured possessions of former railroad workers. This particular caboose found a home in a rural horse pasture in Vinton County Ohio. Over the years it has served as a child's playhouse, hunting cabin, and even used for storage.
Since being acquired by Fiddlestix Village this caboose has undergone a magnificent restoration complete with a working railroad crossing sign. While maintaining the original 24 foot long by 8 foot wide dimensions we were able to create a truly magical space for family vacation lodging. Inside you will find two twin beds, a stunning kitchenette with a built in table for dinning and games, bath facilities (shower, sink, toilet), and space for two flip-chairs where your children can sleep comfortably in their sleeping bags. On the outside the caboose features a large covered platform-like deck which offers additional space for plenty of relaxation and outdoor dining.

The TV never worked. We called Jarod the 1st evening and he said he would contact dish and have them check it out. Nothing was done as far I can tell and Jarod never called back see if the problem was corrected either. Or Jarod, you could came out yourself. Then there's the claimed wifi. Didn't work at all Friday night and barely Saturday and Sunday. There's no provisions for 4 people to sleep in there. Wasp nests across the front porch. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't leave them on your own front porch. These same issues have been brought up by other reviewers for many years but it seems you don't care to address them.

Interesting stay
We enjoyed the quaint atmosphere in the Caboose. We were expecting satellite TV since it was listed as an amenity but it did not work.

Unique experience
The 1926 caboose is a unique stay. It’s outfitted nicely with two comfy twin beds, nicely stocked kitchenette directly across from a table w benches. The bathroom was fully equipped with a tiny sink across from it. There was a full deck, however, the wasp and bee problem detracted from us using it comfortably. We would imagine that could be cared for as there were visible nests all around the roof area. Would have been nice to sit out there much more. Also, not sure Wi-Fi should be advertised until and if it can be made much more robust. Otherwise it’s just a disappointment. Also, a TV is provided but no instructions with how to make it actually function. We were mostly exploring and hiking but would have been nice to unwind with in the evening for a bit. We tried to reach management with a phone call and a chat provided by Vrbo. Never heard from anyone. We left a day early because the novelty wore off pretty quickly. So, if you want a unique experience and to be completely off grid, this just might be your place.

Cozy
Cute, nice and cozy. To many wasp and bees something needs to be done to get rid of them. Also would be nice to have a fire pit outside the caboose. Besides that had a great time.

Extremely cute and lovely
Beautiful little village of rentals with the caboose being, what i think, the best. Very small but also manageable with two 6 foot tall adults... it's tight at that height so be aware. Great location for all of hocking hills! Thanks so much and will definitely be staying again!

Anniversary Getaway
Everything was very clean and organized. Heaters worked perfectly and the water worked good and was clean. Loved this unique cozy experience and was grateful to be able to have the dog we’ve raised for the past 10 years along for the trip! This was his first trip with us and his company made it all the more memorable. We loved reading the notes from past guest and the signature of the author in the B&O rr museum book was very cool! We visited ash cave, mayas burritos, and Rockbridge on Saturday. Can’t wait to visit again someday with our kids.

This should be a 5/5
This place was everything we wanted. My kids loved it. The caboose was so cool. Accommodations were perfect for a couple and two small kids. They shared a bed. The kitchenette also had a flat griddle, electric stove top and toaster to meet all our cooking needs. We had a fire outside at night and it was great to be off of devices for a weekend. We had a blast. The major draw back was the seasonal lady bugs, which detracted away from our overall experience. The owner was polite enough to move us to a different room and the trip was a success. If you don’t stay at the caboose, I would strongly consider the other accommodations on this site. I appreciate the effort that the owner has put into each venue to provide an eclectic stay.

Cold Weather
The weather turned out very cold which affected the amenities of the cabin we stayed in. It had heat, but it wasn't enough to keep us warm. Also, by the second day, it froze some of the water lines as we lost hot water and we were left with just a drip of water from the kitchen sink. Also, the tv didn't work, it wouldn't connect to the satelite dish. We were thankful that the host, Jarod, worked with us to get a refund for the third night. It was just one of those unfortunate things with the weather getting so cold and snowy. We already got your notice for the refund for the 3rd night. I think the caboose would be great in warmer weather because it had a nice porch attached and would have been nice to sit out there.
