I booked this hotel because I wanted a place in walking distance to the market, and that had either a café or served coffee and a restaurant. While they advertised they had both, they had neither. When I went up to the roof, which has a beautiful view, I was told there was no food service or coffee.
There is no restaurant.
And this is not close to the market. This is in the market! As soon as your open your door you’re walking into hustling crowds of people aggressively trying to sell you things. In our weeklong stay in Oaxaca, (we checked out early) In which we had the best food, and ate gourmet dollar tacos, our worst meal was literally served right in that Zocalo market. It is so loud and crowded there, it was like eating on the D Train.
While the staff was nice, they did not speak English, and could not understand that while there is a restaurant in their pictures of coffee on the roof I was disappointed that there wasn’t.
We checked into The Grand Fiesta Americana For about the same price, we had four-star service from the minute we stepped in to a quiet beautiful welcoming much needed respite.
