First please understand that the unit was as advertised. Clean and had plenty of towels with awesome views of the ocean. However please note that this unit is basically a wooden tent with no running water and no bathroom in the unit. It is outside the unit. I take full responsibility for not closely reading the description. We stayed during a large rainstorm as the Yurt shook, rattled and rolled. We did not feel comfortable at all and lost a lot of sleep. If you are a camper and love the outdoors this could be your jam. We however being in our 60s could not relax during the 3 days due to the storms. The neighborhood didn’t have a great reputation with the locals but we honestly had no problems at all staying on this part of the island. The hosts were wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed and even offered lots of really great recommendations for things to do while we were there. There isn’t a lot in the way of shops nearby, but they do have the essentials– a quick mart, gas, and even a pizza place. Very quiet and the stars at night are unmatched. The yurt has a dome top in the middle so you get a little glimpse out into the sky when you’re in bed. Definitely the best spot to do some glamping, would 100% recommend if you’re looking for a quiet place. Only downsides were that the yurt is, you know, a yurt so it’s not soundproof. You can definitely hear every noise in the area and you will be heard… my husband could hear the sound from my phone (on low volume) when he would be walking outside. We enjoyed the property and our stay, close to the things we wanted to do. I would of liked a luggage rack to put suitcases on, but location was great for our trip to the big island! Would stay there again! First time in a yurt, and didn't mind the "toilet" was a different experience! It's way up the hill off the highway but quite serene and spectacular views and lush landscaping make the paradise worth the travel. Who knew the southern west most part of the USA had the best malasada bakery, one of 3 green sand beaches in the world and great restaurants in town?!? Kai and Lisa were great hosts and everything was easy and well appointment. Kai helped check in and texted tips when we forgot his suggestions lol. Amazing time! The parking was right next to the yurt. The bathroom and sink are in another building. There was a microwave and fridge. The coffee was good. It was windy and the outer window coverings were really loud, so bring earplugs just in case. It was nice to see the stars while laying in bed. Lisa and Kai are wonderful hosts, very helpful, responsive and accommodating. The place had breathtaking views at sunrise, and in the night you can see the moon and stars from inside the yurt. Just about everything is provided if you plan on cooking/grilling. We enjoyed our experience staying in the yurt! We had wanted to do this for a while, and when the opportunity presented itself, we jumped! The yurt was a great size for two people. It had a refrigerator and a microwave, and also a grill outside. There is electricity, but a different system of plumbing. There is water for showering, washing hands, and washing dishes, but there are two toilets, one for pee and an incinerator one for poo (I found this fascinating!). The neighborhood is on the slope of the mountain, so it does get a little chilly at night... it was in the low 50s both nights we were there, so bring appropriate clothing. There is no kitchen but bbq has a burner on the side. And the yurt came with all the pots and pans you would need. The yurt it self if very spacious the sky light offers great star gazing from your bed and nice natural light in the day. It is not to far of a drive from amazing attraction like black sand beach and volcano national park. I especially loved the dogs and the cats roaming the property. Simple amenities in close-by town were good and Kai Lokis was tremendous - food and atmosphere.
