Whispering Pines Lakeside Retreat

Newly remodeled 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin on Portage Lake near Park Rapids, Minnesota. New kitchen and all new flooring in May/June of 2021. Both bathrooms have been remodeled as well. This 2100 square foot cabin has an open floor plan in the main area, with bar seating and a large farmhouse table, sofa seating area, and full size kitchen. There is a massive 1200 sq foot 3 season porch with lots of room for indoor activities. There is a washer and dryer for renter use, bedding, towels, linens, soaps, and basic kitchen tools stocked. The kitchen has a full size fridge/freezer, oven, dishwasher, air fryer, toaster, coffee pot, pots, pans, dishes/silverware, drinkware, towels, and soap. The deck has a propane grill. There is a fire pit, dock, and sand beach area. There are a few games, puzzles, books, and toys in the cabin and fishing poles in the porch. There are 2 paddle boards and 2 kayaks on the property.

The Park Rapids area is a relaxing summer destination for you and your family to relax by the beachside fire, shop, hike, dine, atv, boat, fish, or visit local tourist destinations. Some options are; visit Dorset for dinner at the famous Campanero's Mexican Restaurant, The Dorset House or La Pasta Italian Eatery. The town of Park Rapids offers shopping, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Itasca State Park is located within a 20 minute drive and offers biking, hiking and an on site restaurant. There is also an extensive ATV trail system if you want to bring your ATV! The Heartland bike trail is just minutes from the cabin. Your perfect summer getaway! Sorry due to our insurance and renters with allergies we can not accommodate pets.

Left a note for owner on our departure; any issues were not that important. The location was wonderful: easy access to Itasca State Park and to Park Rapids. The dry firewood offered was greatly appreciated, especially after a downpour the night we arrived.

Peaceful place to spend your time
Great place to stay. Dock has a bench, fire pit area is outstanding and has lights. Kayaks were fun to watch the sunset on the water. Comfortable bed and the grill was clean and worked flawlessly. Deck is a great place to soak up the woods. All that and it’s only 20 minutes to Itaska.

Father/Son Weekend
Perfect getaway for our father/son weekend. Our 13 year old sons had a blast: swimming, fishing, boating, paddle boarding and kayaking. The dads had fun too. The house is in a quiet area but close enough to town for all the provisions. I recommend this house and would gladly return.

Quiet and relaxing
Had a great week in mid July with a couple of our teenage kids along. It wasn’t very hot, so my wife used the porch quite a bit with the windows open. Plenty of space to make a quilt without tying up the dining room table. Kids used the kayaks and paddle boards and caught fish from the dock. Only saw one other boat on the lake. Kitchen had everything we needed to make meals. Beds were very comfortable. Definitely worth a return visit if we’re in the area.

A wonderful trip!
We had a wonderful time at Whispering Pines! Our hosts were very accommodating with our last minute trip. We had a couple minor issues with electrical at the cabin and they were available and responded quickly. Very nice cabin with all the accommodations. The kids enjoyed swimming in the lake, kayaking and fishing. We had a great time having fires down by the dock and watching the kids play. There was no lack of fish to catch for the men as well. My sister and I spent one day shopping at the great little shops in Park Rapids. We hope to make it back sometime soon!

Excellent Location
We had a girls trip planned and this location is perfect for a day or 2 at Itasca State Park and another day at the Spa in Nisswa! Also did some shopping at some awesome shops and ate out in Park Rapids.. I highly recommend The Good Life Cafe in Park Rapids and Salvage Sisters in Baxter and the Calming Waters massage at Glacial Waters Spa in Nisswa, mn.

Beautiful escape.
We spent over a week at this house in the woods and were sad to leave. The lake is incredible and the the house is extremely comfortable. We had an issue with the water softener after a few days but the Tammie responded quickly and the issue was handled with a quick reset. We do a lot of cooking and were happy to find a full complement of kitchen tools. The only thing missing was a cheese shredder but pre shredded cheese solved that .... lol

So quiet and peaceful
Quite a nice cabin on a beautiful lake. Even though it was too weedy to fish from the dock, it was fun just being on the dock on a beautiful sunny day. It is quite a steep descent to the dock that my husband couldn't get there. Directions would have been helpful for the three remotes to know which one to use for what. Also our friends stayed in the queen bed and it creaked so badly they had a hard time sleeping. Couldn't understand why there was no door on the master bath? All in all, we still had an enjoyable time relaxing at the cabin

Great Get Away
Our family enjoyed our time at Whispering Pines. Cabin had enough space to spread out. We brought our own pontoon and enjoyed the lake with fishing and pulling the grandsons on our tube & skis. Grandsons also had fun fishing off the dock. Camp fire was a perfect end to the day.

This place lived up to our expectations
This cabin hid no secrets you get what you see and more. It was very roomy and fully stocked with everything needed for our week stay. The bonus was it is very private, there are many trees on both sides of the cabin. The sand beach was great for the young kids and the fishing was way better than expected. We caught 8 species of fish. The grandchildren caught their full of sunnies and a few perch. We caught many northern, bass, and to our surprise a walleye. I recommend a game of bocce ball on their lawn it has a full range of flat and hilly. We had the best game ever. It was our first time renting a cabin and it was a wonderful experience with many great memories. Thank you Aaron and Tammie you have a very nice place.

Whispering Pines is the place to be
Nice clean, quiet cabin with lots of room to relax in. We had really good luck fishing too! Never a dull moment and we didn’t want our vacation to end. Very happy with our experience at Whispering Pines on Portage Lake.

Great week at the lake!!
We had a great week on Portage Lake!!! This is a smaller lake so it was very quiet all week. Things picked up closer to the weekend. Fishing off the dock was very plentiful with tons of pan fish, bass and even a small walleye. The kayaks were a nice addition. The fire pit is in a great spot down near the lake. The cabin has plenty of space for everybody but the porch is was the best part. We always found ourselves gathered there. FYI PARENTS- There IS NOT a first aid kit here. So no band aids, anti-itch cream for bug bites or tweezers for ticks so remember to bring your own. The hosts were very responsive any time we reached out to them.

Gorgeous Spot!
Our favorite spot, with a bunch of young kids, was the screened porch. It is huge and allowed the kids to move around and get some energy out. It also let our group split out a bit and have some space to play different games or just be quiet for awhile. The view across the bay is beautiful! We really enjoyed watching the pelicans and eagles that grace the lake! The lake is super quiet (very few boats) and calm. And the cabin's property feels very private. We loved being up north. The bugs, tho...bring bug spray and you'll be fine. The kids enjoyed the fresh load of sand to play in and we loved how clean the water is. The kitchen is outfitted well with lots of dishes, pots, and pans and even had a very welcome mix of kcups for the Keurig. Plenty of seating around the main table as well as a small table on the screened porch. And everything flet clean. The fire pit was fantastic, with comfy chairs and even hot dog sticks and marshmallow sticks available. There are enough outdoor chomping that you don't need to bring your own. Sitting by the lake and hearing the loons was such a treat. The location is just 10 minutes from town, which was handy for quick trips to the store. And not far from Lake Itasca State Park, which is always a good time. Thanks for a great week!!

Cozy getaway
This place was great - Tammie was a gracious host and very flexible. The property was very quiet and we enjoyed a fantastic week of weather! We brought our boat (easy launch access) and were able to find the center strip of sandy bottom to fish the weed edge (lots of weeds, but not the hosts' fault) - and had great success! Landed 8 different species and nice sizes...don't believe what the DNR lakefinder tells you. We were even able to land a few walleyes that shocked the locals! Frequent bald eagle sightings (one roosted right near the dock) and the lake overall was very quiet. Anytime I Vrbo I want clean, comfortable accommodations and this definitely fit the bill.
